Re: Setting up group announcements mp3

I have not been able to get this to work. I have started to use the "standard" announcement feature in the plugin. And this is also working just fine.

Re: Setting up group announcements mp3

I'd be willing to have a configurable option to specify where the mp3 file is saved to before streaming to the Sonos. I'm just not sure if that would be helpful. Looking for input here - there are open/public directories that would require no additional permission. Any thoughts?

Re: Setting up group announcements mp3

On the sonos plugin for Vera that I used before, the tts was streamed directly from the google tts service. Without any storing of mp3 and all that this includes. I have no idea of what the impact would be, but could that be a way forward? If not I assume it could be helpful to specify the folder for where the mp3 is stored.

Re: Setting up group announcements mp3

I posted an update to the plugin and added a streaming option for TTS. The only drawback I see thus far is a five second delay in audio. Otherwise, it seems to work. Let me know if this is helpful.

Hi Nick.
Thanks for the update. It works just fine on my system. I do however get an error in the log.

Action Group test on group announcement mp3
Schedule _delayed_action_20
Sonos True
Sonos Announcement: test on group announcement mp3 test test test, Volume: 10
Sonos Announcement Length: 4.32
Sonos Error SOAPSend warning: waiting for command execution [10.0.1.200:0]
Sonos Error SOAPSend warning: waiting for command execution [10.0.1.200:1]

And I agree with you, the only drawback is the delay.

Re: Setting up group announcements mp3

I thought I would give setting up the SMB share another try seeing as the Google TTS does introduce a delay, and for the likes of a 'doorbell' announcement, this might become an issue.

I have setup everything as in the thread above and I can see the announcement.mp3 file being created when I execute my action, however Sonos does not play it.

There are no errors that I can see in the event log

The issue I have is that I would have thought that I would be able to 'via Finder' on a remote Mac, be able to navigate to the shared public folder, that the .mp3 file is stored in.
However, I see some of the top level directories ' as in my SMB share syntax', but if I navigate directly using cmd line, the .mp3 file is hidden away within the sonos.plugin package (have to use show package to see it)
So is Sonos having the same issue as me, in that it is unable to navigate to the .mp3 location to play the file?

Hmmm. Not sure if Nick can rejig the location to be more navigable (unless I am doing something wrong that is)
