Re: Xmas

Did anyone get any nice automation related gadgets for Xmas? This was the first year since 2010 I’ve not had a single one as I’ve now mostly completed my automation work. The only thing left to get is a Tesla... :)

Computer says no.

The wife made me wrap up that Insteon haul I got a few weeks ago so I'm playing with that. That was the only real automation stuff. Sadly, my favorite gift this year is a badass nose and ear hair trimmer. You know you're getting old when...

Re: Xmas

Yeah.. what does my body think is going to happen to me that requires my nostrils to be filled with hair?! And at the same time reduce the amount of hair on top of my head. :/

My wife said that Santa could give me a UniFi Security Gateway Pro 4 and a UniFi Switch 24. They were just what I wanted.

I also got a Trane XL624 Thermostat, but that was because one of my current Tranes is pining for the fjords.

I came here to drink milk and kick ass....and I've just finished my milk.

Wow that great Dave! I'd like to get a USG pro 4 as well to replace my edge router.

I'm hoping to get a little back for the Edge Router and HP Switch that they're replacing (which was part of the sales pitch...)

Re: Xmas

I just installed a USG and AC-Pro AP. Now I'm itching to get the LAN bubble in the dashboard to display an active device, but I would sooner move house than re-do all the cables I've hacked through the floors and walls - I did not plan this ahead and allow for a node zero somewhere at home.

The Unifi gear is very nice. One thing I've since noticed with the install is Continuity/Handoff no longer works. I just posted this in case anyone else has seen this with Unifi, and perhaps there's a setting I've overlooked which is blocking this feature.

Have you noticed this?

My one AP covers the whole house, so I don't need to use handoff.

Dave, not Zero-Handoff (AP roaming), but Handoff as part of Continuity.

Re: Xmas

My wife got me the new Apple TV to add to the collection so I can take one of my 4's and put it in the RV permanently. On Christmas Eve I did install a new Sunba outdoor camera for the front of my house that I hook up to Security Spy and then view through the new (and old) Apple TV(s), so SORT of HA stuff.

Re: Xmas

Oh and I got one of those remote control BB8 droids they sell at the Apple store because I always get a fun toy to play with too. And it IS fun too! It's falls into HA only in that I wanted it so I could scare the crap out of the stray cats that like to hang out on our back deck :D and I'll use an HA camera to monitor (and record) the festivities!
