Re: Harvey

In Chicago, I'd say the annual temperature range is something on the order of -20º to 100º.

I'll take -20º over 100º every day and twice on Sunday.

Re: Harvey

I don't, man... having spent time in three of the worst (Texas, Louisiana, and Florida), this is how I characterize it:

Florida: Hot and miserable, humidity sucks but usually have a breeze that combats it. But the sun is unrelenting
Louisiana: Worst humidity/dew point as it is stagnant. Wet and muggy. Nasty. BUT, more escape from sun due to clouds.
Texas: Not humid like the other two but 100+ degrees just plain sucks. Screw dry heat, it is miserable heat.

Solution: Move to Colorado.

I'm with Dave, I think I would take -20 over this Southern crap. As he put it to me once, they can't use outdoors from December to February or so, but we can't use outdoors from like May to September/October, so...

Re: Harvey

If you don’t like hot, just come this side of the pond.

UK rarely sees 25°C/75°F even on rarest if ‘very hot’ days.

Re: Harvey

I would miss the tornados, hurricanes, earthquakes, avalanches and wildfires. If the UK had more life-threatening natural disasters, it might be a contender.

Nope, not me. I HATE BEING COLD. Also, snowy/icy roads are the absolute worst.

Been there, done that. Hated it. Between the miserable snowy/icy roads (I almost got sandwiched between a school bus and a snow plow) and the incredible dryness (I spent probably 50% of my time with infections because if it - my doctor made a mint), it was an altogether miserable 2 years of my life. The one bright spot was meeting the spouse whom I took with me when I left...

Ditto for Alabama (where I lived in my adolescence and went to college). Love my Auburn Tigers, but I'd never live there again.

All in all, given that no place is perfect, Central Texas works for me (though as climate change makes it dryer and hotter, I become less satisfied). 100° days are why A/C was invented (and I have A/C in the seats of my car as well)...

We’ve got worse than that.

We have fireworks going off at 11pm/midnight or police helicopters looking for fugitives.

If you follow the local town facebook group, you’d think world war three was upon us when either of the above occurs.

Heh. I'm in the market for a new car. Ventilated seats is a must-have. OTOH, I couldn't care less about the heated seats...

We have plenty of self created problems.. I don’t think we could cope with natural ones too!
