Frequent Kernel Panic

On my father's MacMini (2015) we have frequent kernel panics :(

Here an extract:

Code: Select all
System uptime in nanoseconds: 21575423670860
last loaded kext at 28402090281: @fileutil   20.036.15 (addr 0xffffff7f85841000, size 114688)
loaded kexts:
com.silabs.driver.CP210xVCPDriver64   3.1.0d1

I have the feeling that the Z-Wave Stick is causing the crash...

Re: Frequent Kernel Panic

UPDATE: I have updated the SiLabs driver for the Z-Wave Stick, bringing it from 3.x (2015) to 6.x (2021), let's see if the problem is solved

Re: Frequent Kernel Panic

Yeah, I've definitely see USB/serial drivers cause kernel panics. Hopefully the newer SiLabs driver version will prevent the problem.

Re: Frequent Kernel Panic

I am bringing this thread up again.
Unfortunately the situation is not improving, I have at least 1 kernel panic every second day.

As far as I know the Z-Wave stick is connected through an extension (this is my father's Mini, not mine); will a new cable solve the situation? I mean, could a kernel panic be caused by a malfunctioning cable? Or maybe is only the Z-Wave stick?

Thanks

Maybe? Best you can do is try switching out cables, removing and/or adding USB hubs into the mix to see if that changes anything. If nothing else works then try a new stick.
