Here are a few pictures of the aluminum channel / defusers on the house and some videos I recorded last night of some of the effects. I didn't take any progress pictures, but the next section I do I will take pics and post.

Awesome. That would be taking the lighting game in my street to a whole new level!!!

More generally, am I right in thinking I just need power and WiFi for this setup? Thinking of what cables required in my electrics plan I'm coming up with for garden rewire.

Generally speaking you are correct, you will need WiFi to connect the NodeMCU to your network for control and you will need a 5 or 12volt (depending on which LEDs you select) power supply capable of providing the appropriate wattage for the number of LEDs you plan to power. The only other component that I am using is a logic level converter (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074M ... UTF8&psc=1). The node MCU digital output pins provide 3.3v, the data in on the 2812b LED strips I am using really need 5v logic. The logic level converter takes care of this. This is very important if your NodeMCU is further that a few inches away from the first pixel on the LED strip. Other than that, you will need something on your network running an MQTT broker to send and receive messages to/from the NodeMCU.
