Indigo Domotics

I love the new Broadlink IR plugin. Now I need to know whether the actual TV is on or off. I am considering one of these:

Aeotec by Aeon Labs ZW096 ZW096-A Smart Switch 6, Small, White https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00VQISOCG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_XqCaCb14NEFEP

... and monitoring energy consumption to tell the on/off state.

Any other better options? Possible LED detectors? I’m sure a raspi or arduino could do it, but I don’t have the time I wish I had to fiddle.

I use the UK version of these to monitor the TV to keep the lights on as we don't trip the movement sensors when watching TV and also turn off the TV at 'lights out' as a 65" Plasma on standby consumes a lot.
Just use Alexa to turn it back on next day when required.

+1 on that.

Our only remaining plasma consumes 60w while it's "off". We have it on an Aeon Smart Switch.

Now I’m curious AND lazy!

What’s 60W continuously a year cost?
Edit: Nm, I checked. 60w lightbulb run continuously is ~ $17 a year I see.

Now that’s a great way to sort presence detection in the lounge!!! I’ve struggled with this for ages as motion sensors don’t work as we all stay still and the pressure sensors under the sofa cushions weren’t reliable.

Now obviously people could leave the tv on but we are pretty good with that!!

Brilliant idea of power consumption for presence detection - that may be useful elsewhere too.

I also use it in the kitchen (even though I have 3 motion sensors!)

if extractor fan is on then if lux is below x outside then keep lights on.

Says a 60w bulb on continuously for a year would be about $55 at our rate of $0.106/KWH.

Lighting is huge. We swapped out our front porch incandescent lights (3 x 60W = 180W) for super bright LED lights (3 x 15W x 30% = 13.5W) saving about 165W and these lights are on dusk to dawn all year. I'm thinking of knocking them back to 20% over night. A similar swap took our landscape lighting from a total of 150W to 22.5W. It adds up quickly.

Running my pool pump year round would be $1700.. reduced to 3 hours per day w zwave switch + on if temp close to freezing .. cost reduced to $300

The 2 Mac Pros I have use 400 watts ~ $450.. Total for servers, switches cameras ... is >800 watts ~ $1k no chance of reducing.

Part of me wants everyone monitoring on my server rack/AV cupboard... But part of me doesn't want to know!

The hue lights go on in my kitchen and living room with hue sensors ( configured on the hue hub as the response is faster then going thru Indigo) at this point Indigo takes over.
In the living room, power of the TV is measured with a neo coolcam power switch.
In the kitchen I also use a neo coolcam measuring the tv and and aeotec heavy duty switch on the induction glass (also measuring and turning of when not needed)

Works as a charm!

So I got two of these- any tips on how you use it, as in scheduled Indigo scripts to wake it up or something? Mine is not that responsive, though it’s position behind the TV may be adversely affecting it’s access to my zwave network.

Fun fact, it costs $18 a year to keep my TV on stand-by!
