Re: Alternative Samsung TV Plugin

Ha - mine is stupid and only works with the tuner too... (I just happen to have found a use for it).

Re: Alternative Samsung TV Plugin

Hi all,

This is my first post here, so I'm a noob!
I want to connect my 55Q8F to my Mac Mini using the Ex-Link port and a usb to serial adapter.

I bought this: FT232 3.3-5V TTL USB Serial Port Adapter
Image

White: RX (3.3V)
Green: TX (3.3V)
Black: GND (min)

How should I solder these to my 3.5 audio plug. Should the white RX cable go to the tip ore the ring?
The black one is obvious, but i's strugling to figure out the rx / tx part.

I tried both combinations, but I can't get it to communicate with my Mac.
So knowing the wiring is right makes the rest of the troubleshooting easier hopefullt.

BTW I have enabled the Hotel mode, set the RS232 port to UART and disabled Anynet+
No luck so far! Am I missing something?

Re: Alternative Samsung TV Plugin

This cable cannot works! RS232 is -12v/+12v level and USB is TTL logic (0-5v). Those are not compatible without a buffer between.

Thanks

J.

Thanks J.! I bought a regular USB to RS232 converter, and it works now!

Re: Alternative Samsung TV Plugin

Anything possible with this plugin with the newer models like the Q80T?

Thanks,

Carl
