Using emojis

Hey all,

I had a bright idea... using emojis as part of the name of the device. This gives me an instant visual cue as to what this device is. I put the emoji as the first character in the device name. I have an emoji for light switches, glass break sensors, gas and water valves, etc.

Hope this is helpful!

Cool. I'm a little surprised it works. Do those show correctly in Indigo Touch? How about in Control Pages?

Note that they will likely play hell with Alexa (and anything else that tries to interpret the name), so for Alexa you'd want to add a custom name to any devices with emojis in the name in order to get voice recognition working correctly/reliably.

I'm not an Alexa user, so I can't comment on that, but emojis show up great in Indigo Touch and in control pages!

They're just unicode characters, so they should show up anywhere that supports unicode.

Initially, I didn't think this would be something that I would use since I don't typically use the Indigo UI for control, but I think it does have some good applications for me. For example...

I use emojis for house status and they work great.

House emoji for "home", Bed emoji for "Sleep", Arrow emoji for "Away." That way control pages can just show the emoji.
