Indigo and flyingdiver to the rescue — literally :-)

I wanted to pass along how indigo along with a plug-in from flyingdiver helped saved a cat.

My wife and I noticed a cat (on and off) around our house - it looked pretty rough and we were worried it would be in trouble once the winter weather set in.

We could not just set out food since we live on the edge of a forested area and any food left out would bring in a ton of raccoons.

We used Indigo and Joe’s plug in to set up an alert that flashes the room lights red when a cat is spotted on my security cameras.

Using that alert we were able to slowly gain the cat’s trust by feeding him without starting a raccoon invasion.

We got him into a schedule, feeding every morning and every night. Over a few weeks he would show up like clockwork.

He was very skittish so without the camera info this would have never been possible. We contacted a shelter that loaned us a trap. We got him used to going in the trap and then yesterday we set it.

Long story short, he is now in the care of the shelter - The vet tech said once he realized they were helping him, he became relaxed and turned into a purr machine.

They will hold him and care for him until the infected cuts on his feet and some dental work he needs is taken care of. Then they will fix him and find a forever home for him.

We are so relieved and thankful for the fantastic work the shelter does and the Indigo ecosystem that made this possible.

That's great!

Only useful thing I'm using that plugin for is to notify me when the USPS truck comes by. ;)

We also use it to spot deer in the back - we have a baby and mom that come up to get chunks of apples we cut up and feed.

The Camect object recognition is actually quite good. But it does think that boats going past our dock are pickup trucks, and people in kayaks are pedestrians. ;)

Have you been reporting mistakes to the developer - they seem to fix things pretty quick. We use Camect for all the delivery service too. Today (so far) was Amazon :-)

Yeah, I did a few times. They have some training data now, but I'm not sure boats are high on their priority list.

Turning a cat ON and OFF using Indigo, now that would be a great feature request!

On and off for cats is something Matt and Jay have planned for the 2022 version - right now all I can do with Indigo is toggle her in and out of the box

They'd be done already but every time they try to turn the cat on or off, nothing happens.

While I love our cats (3 of them) dearly, one in particular had a terrible habit of standing outside our closed bedroom door at god awful times (4 to 5 AM) singing up a storm. I finally trained it to stop by placing an appliance module on an upright vacuum cleaner by the door. Now with a single press of my bedroom Control Page Cat Deterrent button the vacuum monster comes to life for 2 brief seconds and I can return to my slumber for another hour.
