Re: Pete's R&D Build Thread

Sorry, typo Jay - the mobile interface. I've All but given up as I don't have time to tweak a control page when I add new devices each time. I live off the default indigo touch interface which can be a little restrictive with items that are only on / off.

It's my one niggle with Indigo

Can you elaborate? On/Off devices are the simplest, so what else can you do with them besides turn them on/off?

Nothing else with on/off devices, but things like viewing CCTV cameras and changing colour on leds (select by colour and not dragging RGBW levels around) - those kind of things you need a control page configured for. Unless I missed something? But you can natively have them in HC2 (according to my quick research).
Not criticising at all, indigo is a fantastic product! I just feel the mobile client is the weakest part imo

You don't have to do that in Indigo either, right?

Lol, so I'm eating my words pretty quickly.
Both me and my business parter are not getting on with Fibaro HC2 at all.
Apparently (according to their own forums) getting a motion sensor to Play a Sonos speaker is 'a little complicated for a beginner'.
The same goes for even getting Philips Hue integration, there's a whole blog post about how to do it - involves loads of manual coding, downloading plugin files and setting up the integration, and even then it didn't bloody work.

Both Fibaro HC2's are getting sent in for a refund.
Not interested in Vera.
Smart Things is cack.
So we're about to purchase another 2 or maybe 3 licenses of Indigo for work to tinker with :) Any chance there is any form of bulk discount?
Annoying we have to buy Mac Mini's all around though as that's the most expensive part of Indigo! The one in the office needs to record 3 camera's at once so looks like we'll need the mid-spec Mac that's around £700.

There are some nice things with the Fibaro.
Built-in firmware upgrades of the Fibaro modules... so much so I might even sync my own modules to upgrade the firmware and then set them back on Indigo.
Standard web interface is nice, and can also link into things like Imperihome etc.. to make it easy to build mobile friendly interfaces - much easier than Indigo IMO.
Device support is a little restricted on the Fibaro of course - I had thought they would have opened it up for more. Vesternet threw in 5 free UK power sockets, but Fibaro didn't have a 'template' for that strangely.

Bulk Discount - use the referral system.

Recommend yourself three times with different names and addresses, and get cash back to yourself for each referral. :-)

Re: Pete's R&D Build Thread

One day I must visit your house :P

Are you planning to do any form of motorised blinds/curtains? If so I’ll be interested to see what you’ve got planned as my current implementation leaves a lot to be desired (Noisy and fine control of positioning is difficult)

Don't worry, he won't ban you... and if he does I'll just sneak into his office and unban you. For a price...

It's something I've looked into a little but haven't found anything I'd be happy to go ahead with yet... We're looking to replace a velux window at the moment so I'm looking to see if we can maybe put in a fibaro relay or something in the electronics of that to control it somehow - very much in early stages at the moment!

Re: Pete's R&D Build Thread

Soooo, latest development is that I'm working with a friend who provides broadband via RF. so now I have one of these on the house ..

They're going to start configuring it on Wednesday and if it works I might get anything from 300Mbps up AND down to 500Mbps !!!

From my 5Mbps down and 0.3up this will be amazing !!
