Required info to build support for new zwave device

Forum rules

Questions about hardware that can be controlled by Indigo (but not through the interfaces and plugins listed). If Indigo doesn't support some bit of hardware you're interested in, and you don't find a 3rd Party Plugin for it, add it to this forum. Be sure to include links to as much information as you can find about it.

Note: adding it here does not mean we're going to add it - in fact it's possible one of our 3rd party developers may decide to write a plugin for it. We add hardware/features based on a lot of different factors beyond just having a request for it.

Required info to build support for new zwave device

Hi,
I have a few new-ish Heat.it devices that have only basic support (e.g. a dimmer). What information (about these devices should I provide so that the developers can build proper support?
Thanks!

The devices that I can provide information on are the Z-dim, Z-push and the (new) z-wave Thermostat.

If you're able, select each device in turn and then select "Edit Device Settings...". Within the dialog box that appears should be a button that says, "Write Device Details to Event Log". Copy and paste the result and submit that data. You can add the information to this thread or submit via email.

Do what Dave suggested but be sure and also submit them (from the settings dialog) back to our server so it gets added to our database. Also include the info Dave mentioned from the Event Log into a forum post and note which log snippet is for which device model. Lastly, copy/paste any links you have to PDFs of the manuals so we can see what configuration parameters they define.

Hi Matt,

I do not have the option to submit the Z-Dim or the Thermostat; the button does not appear in the dialog.
Let me know if I can submit some other way.

Thanks
Mark

Re: Required info to build support for new zwave device

We have stubs for a couple of those already so it doesn't show the UI to submit the details. Your Event Logs above will help.

How are all 3 modules behaving currently in Indigo? That is, what specific problems are you having with them (besides no configuration parameter UI showing)? For the 8 button controller we'll probably need to add the scene definitions so you can trigger off of all the button presses. Any other details on that one? And do the Z-DIM and Thermostat behave as expected?

The dimmer and thermostat work as expected. The transmitter I have not tried yet. I will let you know what happens with short/long presses and releases etc.

Re: Required info to build support for new zwave device

Hi again, and sorry for the delay.
I tried the pushbuttons, and although a z-wave message is sent when I press a button, I cannot seem to define a trigger with that message. It would be very useful if I could select "Button ** pressed short/long" in the Configure Incoming Command Received window.

I collected the following data from the buttons, hope they're useful:

Top “0” button
Z-Wave received "1 slaap 4 buttons 2" scene 4 (0004)
Top “1” button
Z-Wave received "1 slaap 4 buttons 2" scene 3 (0003)
Bottom “0” button
Z-Wave received "1 slaap 4 buttons 2" scene 2 (0002)
Bottom “1” button
Z-Wave received "1 slaap 4 buttons 2" scene 1 (0001)
Top “0” button long press
Z-Wave received "1 slaap 4 buttons 2" scene 516 (0204)
And release
Z-Wave received "1 slaap 4 buttons 2" scene 260 (0104)
Top “1” button long press
Z-Wave received "1 slaap 4 buttons 2" scene 515 (0203)
And release
Z-Wave received "1 slaap 4 buttons 2" scene 259 (0103)
Bottom “0” button long press
Z-Wave received "1 slaap 4 buttons 2" scene 514 (0202)
And release
Z-Wave received "1 slaap 4 buttons 2" scene 258 (0102)
Bottom “1” button long press
Z-Wave received "1 slaap 4 buttons 2" scene 513 (0201)
And release
Z-Wave received "1 slaap 4 buttons 2" scene 257 (0101)

Re: Required info to build support for new zwave device

We'll definitely add this to the list of device that need definitions. In the mean time, however, you can use the Z-Wave Scene Controller plugin to create Triggers when those scene commands are received.

Just read the plugin forum thread first - the latest version appears to have a bug - the previous working version is discussed in the thread.
