Weatherflow Smart Home Weather Station

Forum rules

Questions about hardware that can be controlled by Indigo (but not through the interfaces and plugins listed). If Indigo doesn't support some bit of hardware you're interested in, and you don't find a 3rd Party Plugin for it, add it to this forum. Be sure to include links to as much information as you can find about it.

Note: adding it here does not mean we're going to add it - in fact it's possible one of our 3rd party developers may decide to write a plugin for it. We add hardware/features based on a lot of different factors beyond just having a request for it.

Weatherflow Smart Home Weather Station

[MODERATOR NOTE] There is now a plugin for this hardware in the Plugin Store. Please post issues on the Github repo for the plugin (we've locked this topic).

------------------------------------

I have just installed a new innovative weather station with no moving parts.
It measures rain with a haptic sensor and wind with sonic sensors.

http://weatherflow.com/smart-home-weather-stations/

Very easy to set up and it gives acccrate measurements at an affordable price.

They have also us smart home owners in their mind when they developed the station and have an open API.

I would love to se a plug-in for this device.

I'm considering one of these units, too, and would love to tie it into Indigo.

Re: Weatherflow Smart Home Weather Station

This API appears to be compatible with the GhostXML plugin. I have tested the API against the development API key using the following URL:

Code: Select all

Note that it may require authentication for a "real" connection.

I've had one for about 6 months now, it works great!

I paired mine with a Meteobridge hub that will feed many weather services at once, it pulls the data from Weatherflow locally via UDP packets.

Dave's fantastic GhostXML then pulls the data from the Meteobridge into Indigo.

My only question (sent into Weatherflo and got no answer) is how accurate the cumulative rainfall is relative to a tipping bucket or old style tube gage... I like the fact that My Davis gives me rain accumulation to 0.01" (and 0.05 here and another 0.07 there does add up), but really annoyed that when the bottom falls out and we get the 6 to 8" per hour rate in thunderstorms, it always falls behind.

Any update on these? I've been looking for a rain gauge solution ever since the WU implosion killed off my ability to snag data from a nearby well-maintained and very accurate station.

Somewhere else on the forum I remember reading about a device that hooks up to an rPi and optically counts drops to generate rainfall amounts. Looked a bit complex to set up, but I was intrigued with that one too.

Re: Weatherflow Smart Home Weather Station

There are hopes for a plugin for this Weatherflow station in a near future.
Bruce in the weatherflow community (maybe he is here as well) is working on one.

Re: Weatherflow Smart Home Weather Station

I put one in a few months ago - big upgrade from Netatmo - set it up like Korey. Best thing - no more climbing ladders to change batteries :-)

Re: Weatherflow Smart Home Weather Station

Hmmm - if Bruce creates a plugin for it I may considering replacing my Netatmo. All 3 of my outside sensors have failed (two to exploding batteries and one for some other unknown reason). Netatmo replaced the temp sensor for free, but it wasn't an easy process. Not sure if I'm going to bother with the wind and rain or just replace the whole thing. NOT IMPRESSED.

Re: Weatherflow Smart Home Weather Station

I had a Netatmo wind sensor fail - it got water inside after some snow. I still use the Netatmo sensors that I have indoors - the Weatherflow feels like a more professional setup to me. I let my neighbor use the web display for his own use :-) If you click on any item you get a nice graph.

If you do consider getting a weather flow, there is a new model in the works for release in March 2020!

Re: Weatherflow Smart Home Weather Station

Looks like they've got an indiegogo campaign up to extend the perks. Anyone know if Bruce (we have at least 2 Bruces that already have plugins) is really going to do this plugin? I really don't have the bandwidth to do one and really don't want to buy based on speculation...

Re: Weatherflow Smart Home Weather Station

Just FYI in case you missed it Jay - you can integrate it with indigo via Daves GhostXML plug-in. Granted not as nice as a full plug-in integration but you can pretty much to what ever you want with the values - just a bit of extra work. See below....

PS. but it does take some additional SW and a 25 dollar router that you flash.

Re: Weatherflow Smart Home Weather Station

Yeah, I don't really have the time (or inclination) to build/assemble something like that. Better to just wait for a plugin... :D
