Re: Authentication error

Had this happen to me last night. Only way I found to fix it was to go “Account Home”->Authorization and revoke Alexa’s permissions, then re-link the skill. Interesting that this did not work for your father.

Re: Authentication error

This keeps recuring in my environment ...... Three times now in the last 2 days.

Is there something going on with the license or is there a plugin or base level update that I need to update? I appear to be on 2022.2.2

I seem to have to revoke the current and re-enable the skill each time to restore. Here are some log entries from the most recent occurrence:

I too have been experiencing this issue over the last two days here in Australia. After revoking and re-authenticating as described by previous posters it comes good but fails again (often in a matter of minutes) with similar errors in log as reported by AutoMation01 . Reloading plugin, restarting server and rebooting modem router seems to have no effect or improvement.

Re: Authentication error

Thanks Jay ...

In my case the issues were continuing every day for several days straight (sometimes more then once a day - similar to what mclass reported from down under).

Shooting at straws and suspecting network issue of some kind, (using the traditional network philosophy that it is always DNS ;-) ), I added a public DNS server to my network configuration along with my PiHole DNS server that I was only using as the singular DNS server for the Indigo host (never had any issues with this network config before and have been running the same DNS services on this host for years without any issue) ????.

Alexa has remained active without license expiration for more than a day now, so I am hoping for the best and keeping my fingers crossed .... Could just be coincidence of timing.

My local host is already configured for proper loopback so that is not an issue in my case.

I do have both wired LAN and WiFi connections active to different networks segments (IOT and LAN), but will experiment further and turn off the WiFi interface if the current DNS testing fails. More to follow if the issues recur.

Best regards,
Dean

Re: Authentication error

Thanks from me too, Jay! Twelve hours now without error!

The local host line was in the file, but so was other mysterious stuff!!

What mystifies me though is this Alexa plugin issue occurred on a headless Mac Mini that is dedicated to Indigo, that had run the Alexa app without issues for many months and had not had any tweaks before the issue occurred.

To add to the mystery is that a number of users experienced the problem within the same period of time!

But all now seems good, thanks

Re: Authentication error

I suspect a recent macOS update has made it less tolerant of unexpected/missing items in the hosts file. But that's just a guess.

Note, however, that this isn't restricted to the Alexa plugin - there are reports from other plugins which use certain network library features are failing in the same way as well, which further seems to indicate that something in macOS has changed.

The local host line was in the file, but so was other mysterious stuff!!

Did you save a copy of what was in the hosts file? It would be interesting to see if everyone having the problem has the same (or similar) mysterious lines or not.

Re: Authentication error

Mine is pretty basic. ..... IP4, IP6 and broadcast loopback with a couple of static host definitions.

Here are my entries for comparison:

Code: Select all
##
# Host Database
#
# localhost is used to configure the loopback interface
# when the system is booting.  Do not change this entry.
##
127.0.0.1   localhost
255.255.255.255   broadcasthost
::1             localhost
fe80::1%lo0   localhost
192.168.1.67   myserver5.local
192.168.1.66   myserver3.local

Re: Authentication error

Host file prior to edit:

Code: Select all
##
# Host Database
#
# localhost is used to configure the loopback interface
# when the system is booting.  Do not change this entry.
##
127.0.0.1       localhost
255.255.255.255 broadcasthost
::1             localhost
# Added by Docker Desktop
# To allow the same kube context to work on the host and the container:
27.0.0.1 kubernetes.docker.internal
# End of section

Not knowing exactly what I was doing (!), I commented out all lines except the localhost. I suspect I will need to uncomment the broadcast host, but Docker is no longer installed. Not sure if the "::1 localhost" is required and any advice appreciated. Here's the content after edit that restored Alexa plugin performance:

Code: Select all
##
# Host Database
#
# localhost is used to configure the loopback interface
# when the system is booting.  Do not change this entry.
##
127.0.0.1       localhost
#255.255.255.255        broadcasthost
#::1             localhost
# Added by Docker Desktop
# To allow the same kube context to work on the host and the container:
#27.0.0.1 kubernetes.docker.internal
# End of section
