Server frequently gets stuck in a high-CPU state

Is debug-level logging possible?

Indigo Server gets stuck in this state every day with my fan screaming:

Although Indigo continues to function, the server must be killed and restarted. Only then does CPU usage return to normal.

Yet there is nothing suspicious in the log:

The only errors are due to disabled plugins. All were disabled to eliminate a likely source of issues:

The server and MacOS should be up to date:

BTW: Some amazing additions in this last, major release. Thank you!

Re: Server frequently gets stuck in a high-CPU state

One common cause of the server going to 100% is a device (or plugin, but you disabled most of them) which is updating the state of a device constantly... basically it just keeps slamming the server with device state updates multiple times per second. Notice any Last Updated dates of devices constantly updating?

Also, Indigo really don't like having the system go to sleep. You should have sleep disabled on your Indigo machine.

I agree with Joe – definitely get the Mac not trying to sleep first and see if that takes care of the problem. If it doesn't we can troubleshoot further.

Re: Server frequently gets stuck in a high-CPU state

RogueProeliator and Joe. Thank you so much for your responses, and also for your contributions to the plug-in community. You make all of us better off.

Thank you also Matt!

You may all be well on the mark about sleep issues.

Indigo Server and client are on a personal MacBook Pro plugged into what amounts to a high-tech A/B switch. A work laptop is connected to the switch also. I can then choose which laptop works with a pair of monitors. Both laptops are closed up ("clam-shell" mode).

To prevent sleep when switching, I use Amphetamine:

I see that I failed to restart Amphetamine following a reboot! Let me reboot again, correct my error and see if the problem persists. I will get back with an answer either way.

Appreciatively,

The machine has been kept awake, yet I see the same high CPU usage today. Please let me know if there might be some advanced logging I can use to gain insight.

Indigo utilities plugin has a cpu logging feature- you could try that.

Will give cpu/100 secs for all
Plugins, client and server.

Karl,

Thank you for your help. I can see how much effort has gone into this plugin! This will be a powerful weapon in my hunt for the problem.

I found yet another way to sabotage myself... anti-virus software:

Doh! Hopefully once I eliminate all these issues the problem will disappear.

Thanks again!

Re: Server frequently gets stuck in a high-CPU state

It's been a week, and there has been no recurrance of the high-CPU issue, even with all necessary plug-ins enabled.

It looks like I've identified to ways to sabotage yourself:

- Allowing your machine to sleep
- Thwarting Indigo server's disk access with anti-virus software

Perhaps this will help someone else in the same boat.

Thank you all for your responses, insight and support!
