Indigo Server 7.4 not working without WAN?

Our internet provider has a failure, internet is not working at the moment.
LAN / Ethernet /Wifi is working well.
Remote Desktop to the Mac mini is working well and so does SecuritySpy.

But the Indigo Server is no longer working properly. Messages like” Indigo Server is not running” etc.
With an iPad or Macbook the Indigo control page is not reachable anymore via LAN.
(Even after a restart of the Server)
How is this possible?

Can you copy/paste the exact errors your seeing (either from the event log or from a screen capture)? Is it just that Indigo Touch isn't connecting to the Indigo Server? Can you see control pages in Safari on the Indigo Server Mac by going to http://localhost:8176?

I have my indigo touch setup to go to the external address so I don't have to switch addresses when I'm outside of the house. Now my firewall is smart enough to route the connection directly to my HA subnet when I'm on the house wifi but some time ago when my firewall was not smart enough, if the internet failed I couldn't connect. Is it possible you have a similar setup?

If you have a address as a domain name setup instead of an IP then your devices might want to resolve the dns and with no internet they may fail (this depends on several factors). In my setup I have a local DNS proxy so things like that don't affect me..

We tried with Indigo Touch (Bonjour is not working anymore) and got with a manual IP LAN connection with the Indigo Server.
Control Pages in Indigo Touch are loading but the on/off buttons are not working (only a click sound) but they won't go off or on, red or green).
This problem is also in Safari.

A couple of plugins were disabled (Ring, Cynical Weather, Ghost XML (because the failed internet connection))

Further on after a restart of the Mac a lot of Plugins gave errors.

Yes, Indigo works without an internet connection. We have several users who have Indigo running in vacation homes that don't have always-on internet.

All of these errors show that there is some other systemic issue that's causing problems on your Mac. Plugins use socket connections to talk to Indigo. It looks like something is causing those socket connections to fail. Sockets are part of the network stack, though they are definitely not dependent on an internet connection. So, it appears that something is causing the network stack on your Mac to get into a bad state when it doesn't have an internet connection.

Unfortunately, I have no insight into what that might be. Anyone else have any ideas? You might try: rebooting your Mac again, starting the Indigo Server, disabling all plugins and interfaces, then restart the Indigo Server. If there are no errors in the event log after the server restart, then start reenabling them starting with the interfaces. I'm not particularly hopeful, because I'm pretty sure there's something going on system-wide on your Mac, but it's worth a try.

Without necessarily disclosing actual IPs if you don’t want, what IP range are you on at home, what router are you using, what are your DNS servers set to?

If your DNS is set to Google (8.8.8. for example, and you don’t have a local DNS set (normally your router) then you won’t be able to resolve host names on your network.

That may not be part of the problem but before we start looking deep into socket errors, is the fundamental DHCP/DNS network functioning ok?

Can you ping PCs by name from other PCs?

As said before:
LAN / Ethernet /Wifi is working well.
Remote Desktop (from Wifi MacBook) to the Ethernet Mac mini is working well and so does SecuritySpy (and all the cams).
The only problem is the Indigo Server, and specially at the startup.
Because our internet isn't still available yet, we restarted the Mac mini this morning again.
When we start the local Indigo client at the Indigo Server, it gave a "failed connection to the Server" message...

But after a couple of minutes the connection is spontaneously established and the client gives a lot of errors in the log.
Even all the Z-Wave devices are disabled..
When we disable and enable Z-Wave manually, the Z-Wave devices are working again (and also for the other plugins like RFXCom etc.) .
But the Virtual Devices are still not working. How can we enable these manually again?


So, I'm afraid that the lost internet connection gives a lot of troubles to the Indigo Server, specially at the startup.

This is the first error after your restart:

so disable the Sony Bravia Network Remote plugin and try restarting Indigo. It looks like that plugin might be trying to make network calls that are hanging up the Indigo Server, which then cascades into all plugins failing. That shouldn't occur (problems should be localized to the plugin), but depending on when/how that plugin is making its network calls it might be causing problems for the Indigo Server. If it is that plugin then we can troubleshoot into what that issue is to resolve in a future version of Indigo Server and/or the plugin.

I think every plugin with a check (or frequent check) at the internet give problems with this version of the Indigo Server.
Because we disabled for example the Sony Bravia plugin and after a restart of the Server it took again a while before the local Indigo client got a connection with the Indigo Server (~2 minutes).
And again Z-Wave, Virtual Devices and a lot of plugins were disabled (not the X10 interface).

It isn't every plugin that has network calls causing the problem. Continue to disable all 3rd party plugins and see if you can isolate the problem one so we can troubleshoot it in detail.

I'd suggest you disable all 3rd party plugins, verify that works, then enable plugins until you see the problem.

Disabled all the plugins.
Restart the Mac.
Same login problem with the Indigo local client: ~ 1-2 minutes to login.
But no errors anymore in the log.
It’s indeed one of the plugins.
Switch them all on manual.

And again a lot of errors and not working Indigo Server when there is no WAN anymore.
- Local Indigo app won't find the Indigo Server anymore (same Mac).
- After a restart of the Mac mini Indigo Server don't want to start.
- With the local app, we stopped the server
- Start local server with the app
- Then Activity monitor saw Indigo plugin host.

- Start local app again, Message: Won't connect to server again and again.

- Wait 2-3 minutes and local app is working with Z-Wave spontaneous disabled.

We are using the standard plugins from the plugin store.

Did you actually do this?

PS: We did a stop / start of the Indigo Server with ALL the Plugins DISABLED.
And again all the problems as above.
So, it's for sure a problem of the Indigo Server. And after again and again a try to connect with the local app, spontaneous the license is gone...
