Initializing an Aeotec Z-Stick Gen5 Model: ZW090-A in Indigo

I hope this is the correct forum for my issue; if not the right forum let me know and I will move it.

I have an Aeotec Z-Stick Gen5 Model: ZW090-A that I have attempted in initialize on my MacMini running macOS Mojave, version 10.14.4 and Indigo 7.3. After reading the documentation several times I have done the following several times and have not been successful in initializing the Z-Stick. I do have a Insteon / X10 Power Line Interface that I have initialized and a handful of devices, triggers and schedules programed in my Indigo server. I purchased the PowerLinc 2413U and the Aeotec Z-Stick at the time I purchased my license for Indigo. In the lower left corner of Indigo the PowerLinc 2413U is displayed in green and when a device is triggered a moving small green bar is displayed in the progress bar. I believe this is all normal behavior.

To Initialize the Z-Stick I have done the following:
1. Plugged the Z-Stick into an Anker AH412 USB 3.0 7-Port Aluminum hub (powered) Model BW-U058B.
2. I then choose the Interfaces→Z-Wave→Enable menu item. Z-Wave is displayed in RED and struck through next to the progress bar and in the progress bar a small purple bar is displayed moving from left to right and the text "Waiting for Z-Wave Interface" is displayed above the progress bar. See screen shot below

The following is from the Event Log.
Interface Failure lost connection with interface
Error unknown command bytes received E0 E0 (ignoring)
Z-Wave Error rcvd unexpected bytes (sent ACK): E0

(I have done this so often that I now have to choose Interfaces Manage→Interfaces. On the Configure Z-Wave dialog the Connection Type is Local (physical), Network Socket and Network RFC-2217. See three screen shots below.

When I select Local (physical) and click the Save button nothing happens. Am I missing something here.

To stop the initializing process I have to select Interfaces→Z-Wave→Disable. A portion of the Indigo Event log is below.

I would check that the Z-Stick is visible to the Mac by going to the main Mac menu About This Mac and then running the System Report....

Look under USB and you should see an entry for Communication Device with a Vendor Id of Sigma Designs, Inc..

On my 2017 iMac, my Z-Stick G5 shows up as: Connection Type = Local (physical) and Serial Port: usbmodem14301

The Z-Stick is not visible to my Mac Mini when connected to the Anker AH412 USB 3.0 7-Port Aluminum hub (powered) Model BW-U058B (does not appear in the About this Mac System Report).

I then rearranged my USB connections and plugged the Z-Stick directly into a USB port on my Mac Mini and I was able to see it in the System Report. I was then able to successfully initialize the Z-Stick in Indigo.

Is there a USB powered hub that will support the Z-Stick?

Thank you for your assistance.

FWIW, I've got several Dynex USB 2 hubs (and an Amazon Basics branded USB 2 hub) that seem to work well/reliably. I suspect that USB 3 (and beyond) hubs tend to cause more issues. YMMV of course.

I am using the “AmazonBasics 7 Port USB 2.0 Hub with 5V/4A Power Adapter” successfully. I mounted it on the side of the cabinet my Mac Mini is in so that my stick is vertical.

Thanks for the information about USB 2.0 hubs that work with the Z-Stick.

Yep, that's the same one I have, so +1. :)
