Email SMTP stopped working / Verizon FIOS

I have a FIOS system. I have been using SMTP.VERIZON.NET Port 465 SSLfor sending and POP.Verizon.net Port 995 SSL for scanning. It seems the send server stopped working. My login did not change. I get an email send message failure error.

A couple of things: first, confirm with Verizon that the port number is correct - email providers have been known to change those. Second, confirm that they still allow outgoing email messages (some ISPs will only allow outgoing mail from their web-based email systems). Finally, make sure that they haven't instituted some kind of two factor authentication as some mail providers have and that usually requires an app-specific password to be used rather than your general email password.

This problem has come up again. I had it at two different times last year. Verizon may have retired its SMTP server. They discontinued service on verizon.net email accounts in Feb 2017. It appears that the email send stoped March 1 2018 so I bet this is related. But I do not know how to check.

According to https://www.verizon.com/support/residential/email they're out of the email business. You need to switch to some other email account for sending emails.

You can get free accounts from Gmail, iCloud, GMX, and others.

Then a pretty basic question. I have accounts on me.com and gmail that I use frequently. But I do not know how to set up Indigo to send on either of them. What is the SMTP server? I tried smtp.mail.me.com with SSL and port 587 and it failed. See my screen shots,

Those settings are correct for iCloud mail, according to https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202304

Did you generate an app-specific password for that login, per https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204397

My smtp mail has stopped working. Dreamhost recently changed servers, but I have confirmed with them that my settings are correct. Did anything change with 7.2?

Nope, no changes to Indigo 7.2 (or 7.1) in how it handles scanning or sending emails.

Here is what I know:
I am using Mojave version 10.14
Indigo is 7.2
Scanning for emails works
Sending emails does not work. Message in log is email send message failed
My ISP is Comcast
My mail server is smtp.dreamhost.com
Dreamhost support was able to confirm my email server can send mail
Dreamhost support confirmed by settings are correct

Seems my problem is Indigo is not able to connect to smtp.dreamhost.com

Any suggestions on next diagnostic step??

Confirm you can send emails with that info from a regular mail client on your Indigo machine. If that doesn't work, check any firewall or network filter settings (like Little Snitch) on that machine.

Good suggestion. I installed Thurderbird and used the exact settings that I use in Indigo. Thunderbird was able to retrieve and send mail. Is a setting somewhere in Indigo which could be preventing it from sending mail?

I doubt there's a setting. But it would not surprise me if the old C++ library that Indigo uses for it's internal email handling has a bug.

Try the BetterEmail plugin.

Yes, I believe you did. At the time, I was able to get things working and it has been reliable up until very recently. I'll give Better Email a try. Thanks.
