iPad Safari won't save Indigo login info

I use Safari to connect to Indigo Server, from my iPad, on my local network - 10.0.1.xx:8176 and although I have Safari set to save User Names & Passwords I have to enter them for Indigo Server every time. Why aren't they saved?

An option to use a User name & Password for LAN and or WAN would be nice.

Re: iPad Safari won't save Indigo login info

Safari doesn't save HTTP Digest authentication information. Changing Indigo to use an alternative authentication scheme wouldn't be a bad idea, but it is unlikely to happen in the near future.

I am very lucky then, because I don't have to re-enter the password (iPad 1 with latest software and Indigo 4)...

This particular authentication big in iOS shows up nearly every major release. It's obviously pretty elusive since it appears sporadically and is fixed with no announcement. I've also seen it fixed by clearing the cookies (but that doesn't always work either).

FYI, I also see it in Safari on the Mac occasionally. Usually with my phpbb authentication stuff which gets really old really quick...

I'm having this problem also on my iPad. I'll try the cookies tip from Jay to see if that works.

Re: iPad Safari won't save Indigo login info

The Indigo Web Server doesn't use cookies, so I didn't think Safari on the iPhone or iPad ever remembered user / password correctly. Indigo Touch does explicitly save the info, so that should work, but I don't recall Safari ever working. If it worked for DomoPat, then maybe it was because Safari didn't really quit ? Or maybe I mis-remembering...

Re: iPad Safari won't save Indigo login info

When using the Indigo app on my iPod the Indigo login info is remembered but when on my iPad, and use Safari to log into Indigo Server, the login info is lost on a restart.

I can't turn off the authentication when at home because then Indigo Server has open access on the WAN which goes back to my previous request to separate WAN and LAN access

Wait, which are you saying doesn't work: Indigo Touch or Mobile Safari? The former should work (works here), the latter doesn't to my knowledge because Mobile Safari doesn't support remembering login credentials for HTTP Digest authentication.

And are you running the iOS 5 beta? If so, do you have the latest?

Re: iPad Safari won't save Indigo login info

Matt,

I use the Indigo app on my iPod Touch and it saves the login information fine.

I have iOS 4 on my iPad and login in using Safari to Indigo Server through my home network. Safari does not save the login info.

bob

Any chance this might get fixed in the 6.0 release?

Not sure exactly what you're asking for - if you're asking about any alternate authentication mechanisms then no, we aren't adding any.

Re: iPad Safari won't save Indigo login info

I was indeed asking for a way for the Indigo webserver to remember the login info.

Maybe the new password features of iOS7 will help on this.

Nothing Indigo can do actually - the browser has to implement the storage of authentication data. Given iCloud keychain, I too hope that iOS 7 will finally do credential storage correctly.

Indigo Touch running on IOS7 (iphone) is prompting for authentication over and over. Given the numerous bugs in IOS 7 beta 2, not surprising, but just a heads up for the Touch client.

Re: iPad Safari won't save Indigo login info

It happens with every iOS beta like clockwork - authentication storage gets screwed up. Usually they get it fixed before the final ships though we did have to live through 2 patch releases back with iOS 3 (I think) before they fixed the problem. Exactly why we don't recommend that users use beta OS releases.
