No real progress.... Just some wireless networking and a little fancier interfaces.

I disagree - much of that stuff wasn't actually available in that video (it was just mocked up). But even if it did exist, it would likely have been prohibitively expensive back then, and hard/difficult to source for common people. Most of that tech is much more in the reach of people in terms of cost and availability.
