I couldn’t bring myself to shell for one Sonos amp, much less many of them, so i got one of these in the mail today to stream and power my passive in-ceiling speakers.

So far, seems legit. I am a little surprised i haven’t seen these on this forum yet.

If that did Airplay 2 it’d be perfect!

I was REALLY on the fence about this. Keep in mind, I rarely use the multi-room sync feature of Airplay2 as is. The other option was a $79 or $89 USD device that served as a "pre-amp" (for streaming) only, with maybe one 1/8" headphone jack input.

I liked it-at only 50W per channel and a 60+ foot distance from the amp/pre-amp thing to the speaker (RSL C-34), it still put out a reasonable presence (keeping in mind, this is budget whole-house built-in expectations). My main stereo, for comparison, is largely custom built speaker/ subs, tuned with REW and some Audyssey); the two do not compare.

I ordered a second one, and I'll check to see how well they sync. If they DON't sync well, i'll relegate them to bathrooms or some other project. If they DO sync up, gonna get the $449 deal for five of them.

Will keep you posted.

The last thing I bought for my Sonos system was an IKEA SYMFONISK bookshelf speaker (I'm still on the original Sonos API). Still more money than this thing, but it's not bad for the money IMO.

Just an update- the sync between two devices works quite well streaming Spotify. Now I need to get creative with something to get high resolution that ports into this ecosystem!

I am pretty sure I will swap out the amplifier, but behold my $110 poor man’s Sonos Amp.

Soon! We just moved back into our house after being out for a year and a half, so needless to say I have had my hands full!

I have teasers of some of the various projects I’ve built over the last few years on my Instagram (I hate Facebook but I am purely using this as a portfolio).

I am still in certain how much the channel will be techie-specific versus general audience; My natural inclination is the former, though notoriety comes from the latter!

I think most of my stuff can be viewed through the web interface without the app or an account:

You can see the thumbnails, but you can't click anything without an account (which I -- militantly -- don't have).

For perpetuity: 5 zones, $680 all in. Uses Airplay2 (via a workaround), very similar to Sonos (and works with it when I utilize the airplay 2 functionality).
