Airplay 2 update for Airport Expresses!

I'm upgrading right now.

I’m so VERY chuffed with this.. I have 8 airport expresses and this means I won’t have to replace them with newer devices. Not that there’s many around yet but when AirPlay 2 speakers start properly appearing I’d imagine they’re gonna be about £100 for a good one so this has seriously saved me nearly a grand. Quite probably the best news I’ve had in months!

It appears that this update is only for the newer versions of the AE. I've got a couple of the older wall wart style that don't appear to work.

Yeah it’s only for the square ones that have a rubber base, technically the 3rd generation model.

I’m very chuffed with it so far.. there’s some odd glitches with the interface on the iPhone (but then it is iOS 12 beta) but it works incredibly well even so!

This does not require iOS 12 to use, just FYI.

There was also no needed update for iTunes.

What I really need is an AP2 update for AirFoil.

Indeed my wife’s iPhone on iOS 11 works fine with it. Interestingly last night before I updated to the latest iOS 12 beta the airport expresses showed up in their separate bubbles in the airplay mode but now it’s just the Apple TVs showing up like that. I hope it comes back because it’ll be very handy for control!

For those with older expresses it's £50-£70 for 2nd Gen ones on eBay. Ouch. Vs £10 for 1st Gen.

Yeah.. over the last few months I’ve sourced them from eBay for as little as £15.. I thought the prices would soar if they got a airplay 2 upgrade
