Monocle

I've just found an Alexa skill called Monocle, which allows you to view RTSP video streams from CCTV DVRs or cameras on Alexa Show or Spot. I just set it up with my Hikvision DVR. Cool! :)

Re: Monocle

Yes I have been playing with it for a few days, works on my Fire HD 8 but it is annoying when you whisper into the Fire HD "Show Front Door" and the Echo Dot 4 feet away says "Sorry,.. Cameras don't work on this device".
Just purchase an Echo Show but unless Amazon release new software to stop non video Echo's from responding we will end up having to call the video enabled devices "Computer" instead of "Alexa", not ideal.
Monocle is fussy about what camera it works with, The Front Door is a Dahua 2MP and works fine, the Drive camera is a Dahua 8MP and just won't play ball. Both work with Blue Iris and VLC fine.
All Monocle could do was suggest I use a proxy server "fix" which meant I had to install a 10 year old Microsoft C++ update for a DLL as Windows 10 does not have it...Don't you just love Microsoft!

Re: Monocle

Just an update on this:
- the security SEEMS good, their website is pretty clear that the skill doesn’t allow transmission of video or audio outside your LAN
- when it works, it’s very cool, though I get some problems where it hangs on the “Buffering” screen
- I’m using Amcrest cameras with Basic authentication
