Amazon echo/Alexa announcements

Just saw this announced yesterday, US only first then wider rollout.

Basically will allow you to say Alexa tell everyone dinner is ready and it will broadcast it to all devices in the house.

That will get a lot of use in our house :)

I guess you could use this to have indigo send messages to each device in your house - put an echo next to you Indigo Mac and have it say “Alexa, broadcast (your message)” I may try that....

I just did - an action group with a single speak text action with: "Alexa, what time is it?"

Voila - worked. So once we get the "tell everyone" functionality we then could have house-wide announcements. Cool!

Ok, I might just have to buy another dot to put in the closet with my Indigo Server and stick a speaker from it right next to the dot. It still works with the volume really low so you wouldn't hear the Mac talking but the dot will.

Re: Amazon echo/Alexa announcements

This works fine - the "announce" function works on mine now - did the update not get pushed to everyone

Darn everybody for beating me to the punch!

I have an old appletv, an HDMI-headphone adapter, a cheap speaker, and an echo dot that are going to live in a soundproof box :)
