How to display an Image linked to UiDisplayStateId

I can see how to display the state using UiDisplayStateId in the devices.xml and related methods.
Is there a way to specify a linked image to display alongside it in the devices.xml and/or a method to set it

I am looking to do something similar to the flame symbol and set it on when heating is requested.

Custom state images are not supported but it's on our feature request list for some future version.
