Advice on scripting to convert web cam images to time lapse

Apologies if this in not the right place for this, but seems relevant: does anyone have suggestions or advice on a script I could run from a scheduled Indigo event to convert webcam jpgs to time lapse?

My original research was to use ffmpeg, but it looks like to load that, I’d need to use Homebrew and possibly python 3.0, both items I’ve seen discouraged in other forums by Jay and other smart people.

My next klunky strategy was to use an AppleScript to automate iMovie to it, but apparently iMovie only likes jpegs loaded from iPhoto, not from a directory.

As you can tell, I’m a hack but a willing hack if anyone has advice or a solution already working.
