Need help from a smart person - Indigo/Zwift port theft?

I'm not a smart person and don't understand. I hope you can help.

Indigo 7.4 works great and stays connected to my PowerLinc 2413U. However, I recently downloaded the Zwift Mac app which connects my computer to my bike trainer.

When that app connects via bluetooth to my trainer, Indigo looses its USB connection to the PowerLinc. If I kill Zwift and disable and re-enable the powerlinc connection, Indigo works well again.

Using a iMac Pro (can't imagine it's a number of connection issue). I tried disconnecting a bunch of other USB items and that did not help.

Something to do with porting or addresses or something? I don't even know where to start.

Re: Need help from a smart person - Indigo/Zwift port theft?

So, a bluetooth connection between your Mac and the trainer should be somewhat disconnected from their app. So, do you only see the issue when their app launches and is running? And when it quits you can restart the Insteon interface and it comes back? If so, that sounds like their app is doing bad things with the serial port. What are the exact errors you see in the Event Log when Insteon stops working?

Are there any settings in the app to select a serial port? If not, my guess is that their app is scanning each serial port, opening it and attempting to do something with it to determine if it's the right one. That is very bad and will definitely interrupt Indigo's communication with the PowerLinc. Not saying that is the issue, just a theory...

Correct, I only see the issue when the Zwift application if running and the application has established the BT link to the bike trainer.

It does look like Zwift steals the serial port from the PowerLinc/Indigo. Attempting to Disable and re-enable that connection does not bring it back until Zwift is shut down.

Here's the Log:

Re: Need help from a smart person - Indigo/Zwift port theft?

If the Zwift app is connecting to serial ports it shouldn't (PowerLinc in this case) don't believe there is anything we can do to prevent the disconnects. I was going to suggest other USB ports (including USB hubs) on the chance that it is a driver or hardware level conflict, but it sounds like you've already done so. I think you'll have to contact Zwift and tell them their app is misbehaving to see if they will fix the issue.

Re: Need help from a smart person - Indigo/Zwift port theft?

I found a review that indicates they have a USB stick dongle for those w/o a Bluetooth computer -- I bet it is connecting to the port attempting to find this. You might search through the settings for the Zswift application and be sure that there isn't a setting specifying what type of connection to use in order to connect to the bike. Perhaps they have options you can enable/disable so it isn't searching/trying to connect to the non-Bluetooth ports.
