Indigo 7 client memory usage

Evening all.

Just returned from fortnight holiday and struggled to connect to my Mac via Logmein.

This is usually a sign of running out of memory due to a leaking plugin, but having looked in Activity Monitor, all the indigopluginhosts are behaving.

This time, the biggest consumer of Memory is the client app itself ("Indigo 7" in the activity monitor).

I presumed initially this was the Indigo server, so I stopped the server from within Indigo - which successfully shutdown all the plugins and itself, leaving the disconnected client window.

It is still consuming 1.16GB of memory, when it's literally doing nothing...

Is this right/normal?

I'm on Indigo 7.1.1 on Sierra 10.12.6, running on a 4GB Late 2012 Mac Mini.

Peter

Clearly, that's not right. It looks like the client isn't connected to the Indigo Server. Was that the case when you left or did it disconnect while you were gone? I leave the client on my home server on all the time (running El Capitan) and I just checked it - 141.3MB and it's been running for a couple of months.

It stays running 24/7 normally.

I stopped the Server (Client > Stop Server) thinking "Indigo 7" was the server process, then once Server had stopped I realised it was the Client process.

So with the Client disconnected (as Server stopped) it still ran at 1.18GB

I've quit the Client process and re-started it (which started up the Server strangely enough?) and it's now running at 85Mb.... much better!

I'll keep an eye on it.

Any chance you had left open a dialog of some kind?

Don’t think so...

Log window yes, but presumably that closes with the server?

Strangely I had the same thing a few days ago. SQLlogger was using 13GB and indigo server was using 5GB. Normally uses ~150MB

You can run indigo utilities
Menu point plugins ...

Will show plugin name, id, cpu, and memory and all sub processes.

Actually, he's reporting that the client (not the server) had high memory usage. Likely a different issue.

I’ve noticed for a while that if I leave the Indigo client running on my Mid 2011 Mini the fan runs very loudly after a day or two. I thought it was high CPU but can’t remember now? I’ll reproduce it and report back.

It’s never seriously worried me as I don’t normally have the client running.

I guess it’s been happening for about 7 to 8 months? Initially I thought it was due to being summer and the warm weather. But closing the client instantly quietens it down. I can’t remember if it coincided with a version upgrade... It wasn’t obvious if it did. I’ve re-installed the OS during this time and it still happens.

I had an issue some time ago when there were a lot of updates for many devices that made the client constantly update the screen .. was one of my plugins that went wild and caused the indigo client to become sluggish.

if it happens agin, try to reduce the scope of the screen ie only show a folder and not all devices

just a suggestion

That is a good suggestion Karl. If all the devices are shown and there are frequent device updates then the UI can get behind on the updating which eventually causes it to spin off into the weeds.

I've created an instance of Mac apps for the client so if I have memory issues I can kill it from my iPhone

Karl, could we get this as an action as well rather than just a plugin menu item. I can then run from my iPhone when I'm prevented from remote connecting to my Mac mini and then can see which plugin is causing issues, if any, and restart that one.
Thanks.

see git hub https://github.com/kw123/indigoUtilities and should also be on plugin store

1. added action for plugin info (name, id, mem, cpu, daughter processes ..)
2. added mac temp and fan info menu and action
