Edit Control Page - image filename sorting not working

Was doing some tweaks to my control pages and remembered that I meant to post this.

The popup for the "as image" control when displaying a device state or variable value is no longer sorted alphabetically. So finding the image you want or a corresponding state is extremely difficult.

Anyone else seeing this?

Thanks
Ross

Re: Edit Control Page - image filename sorting not working

Hmmm... if you quit and relaunch the Indigo client (GUI) app does it then sort correctly?

Doesn't fix it. I have this behavior on all 3 machines that run the client. All on 7.1.1 and all on High Sierra. I could install it on a 2009 mini running El Capitan to test, but all my other systems run HS. To be honest, I recall having this issue for a while now since before any of my Indigo systems were upgraded from Sierra.

Thanks
Ross

Installed on El Capitan machine and connected to my server...sort order still out of whack. So client OS version doesn't seem to matter.

Hey Jay...it's attached in the first post. You see the random order of everything there.

Thanks

I’m having this issue as well. It’s on the server machine.

Oops, sorry. That is really strange and unfortunately it's not as simple as an OS/Indigo version issue I don't think: I just tried it on these configurations:

macOS 10.13.2 & Indigo 7.1.1
macOS 10.12.6 & Indigo 7.1.0
macOS 10.11.6 & Indigo 7.0.4

And none of those configurations have the issue, so I think we'll have to get more in-depth about the configs. The server is the thing that builds the list so I'm guessing that's where the issue is (we can look at the client later if we can't identify an issue on the server). Some questions/comments:

  1. How exactly are your disks formatted (case-sensitive or case-insensitive)?
  2. Does the order of the list change between server restarts or does the order stay the same?
  3. Same for client restarts?
  4. How many images do you see in the list?
  5. How many images are in the directory? (should be fewer because of the heuristics)
  6. If you remove your custom images (specifically the ones that use the heuristics), does the problem stay the same?
  7. Any chance the images are in create date or modification date order?
  8. Do you have any 3rd party UI enhancers installed on the Macs running the client? If so, try disabling them.

APFS, case-insensitive.

Does the order of the list change between server restarts or does the order stay the same?

No change to order on server restart.

Same for client restarts?

No change here either.

How many images do you see in the list?

Do I need to count them for real?

How many images are in the directory? (should be fewer because of the heuristics)

1,389 files in the "devices" directory

If you remove your custom images (specifically the ones that use the heuristics), does the problem stay the same?

Yes, the moved files disappear, but the order is still out of whack.

Any chance the images are in create date or modification date order?

Finder view is set to sort by name

Do you have any 3rd party UI enhancers installed on the Macs running the client?

No, none installed on the server.

Trying to get an order of magnitude. I think the next line sorta answers that...

Wow. That's...a lot given that we ship with 510...

Is that taking it back to the 510 or so that are there by default? I'm just wondering if there's something about the # of images that's causing the problem.

Not what I asked - can you tell from looking at the popup list if the images are in some other order, like perhaps by either of the afore mentioned dates? Given your answers to the first couple of questions there is SOME order that's being repeated between server restarts, we just have to figure out what it is.

Sorry...guess I should have been clearer in my answer...there's no sort order I can achieve within Finder using the attributes available that come close to matching the order they show up in the menu. So the Finder doesn't influence the order in Indigo, nor can I replicate the Indigo order within the Finder.

They do seem to follow the same order of display regardless of my images being in the folder or not. When mine are added back in they seem to re-appear in the same locations of the order as they were before removed

Coolcaper- can you provide any info from your system to help with diagnosis?

Thanks

Re: Edit Control Page - image filename sorting not working

I am on macOS 10.13.2 & Indigo 7.1.1

  1. How exactly are your disks formatted (case-sensitive or case-insensitive)?

    APFS case insensitive
  2. Does the order of the list change between server restarts or does the order stay the same?

    Stays the same
  3. Same for client restarts?

Don't normally use a client but just tried it with another Mac and its the same
  4. How many images do you see in the list?

I've got 544 items in my 'devices' directory
  5. How many images are in the directory? (should be fewer because of the heuristics)

    966 in the 'images' directory
  6. If you remove your custom images (specifically the ones that use the heuristics), does the problem stay the same?

Still out of whack. Attached image shows the 'device' directory after removing custom graphics
  7. Any chance the images are in create date or modification date order?

Cannot figure out how they are arranged as I have removed my custom graphics yet the original ones are still in no order
  8. Do you have any 3rd party UI enhancers installed on the Macs running the client? If so, try disabling them

    None

Re: Edit Control Page - image filename sorting not working

FWIW my info below:
Running server on MacOS 10.10.5
Indigo 7.1.1
654 images and no order issues.

Re: Edit Control Page - image not refreshing

So I have a similar problem. I was editing a control page, and edited one of the static images on the page. i copied it back into the folder, but no matter what I do, it still uses the old image even though it is not there. I tried deleting the image altogether from the disk and the control page, but that didn't help, nor did renaming the file. I closed the gui but that didn't help either.

Ideas? Is there a cache somewhere? But how could the image continue to look like the old one when I gave it a new file name?

So postscript-- Indigo touch and the web client are using the right image, but it remains wrong in Indigo.... Since alignment is an issue with that image, that's a bit annoying.

Re: Edit Control Page - image filename sorting not working

Quit the Indigo client app and relaunch it. If that doesn't do the trick, then shutdown and restart the Indigo Server.
