[ANSWERED]Trouble with Lock and Thermostat

Hello. I have Kwikset and Honeywell z-wave devices working fine a summer home, and am now trying to set them up at a new home. Having trouble and need some advice.

Here is what I did:

1. Installed the Vera Bridge plugin
2. Used the Vera Lite to add all the devices to Indigo
3. The devices appear in Indigo and I have basic control. I can lock or unlock a door and I can change mode from off to heat, etc.
4. Complete control is not working; i.e. I cannot set temp above 1 degree and I am getting error messages about a battery level for the locks.

Follow these steps:

1. In the Event Log window, click the Clear Window button
2. On the Vera Bridge plugin's sub menu, select Toggle Debugging
3. Select one of your lock devices and click the Send Status Request
4. Select one of your thermostats and click the up and down setpoint adjustment arrows a couple of times (assuming this is what causes your error)
5. On the Vera Bridge plugin's sub menu, select Toggle Debugging
6. Select the contents of the Event Log window and copy/paste it into a reply.

Hopefully that will provide enough information to figure out what's going on.

Which Vera firmware are you running? The thermostat problem appears to be that the Vera isn't returning the expected JSON. It's working with UI5, which is the latest stable firmware. If you're running UI7 (their latest), you'll need to downgrade to UI5 (see the Vera forums for how to do this - LOTS of people are complaining in multiple threads) - UI7 is apparently a pretty big disaster and I have no plans on updating the plugin (nor my test environment) until they've figured out all the problems.

What is the exact model of thermostat you're using? And, any reason you're using it through the Vera rather than directly controlled via Indigo?

Try deleting and re-adding your locks - if that doesn't work then I suspect another UI7 API bug/change (assuming that's what you're running).

The three thermostats are Honeywell YTH8320ZW1007/U Z-Wave. I am using Vera for them, because I thought I had to. Indigo supports directly? How would I do that? When adding, I thought the choices were Insteon, X-10, or z-wave. Is a plugin needed? On the question of which Vera firmware, I will check tomorrow when I am back at the new house. I also have a bunch of GE z-wave outlets. I added them with Vera. Indigo does not directly support, right?

The Vera bridge IS a plugin. Indigo supports Z-Wave directly via a Z-Wave interface like the Z-Stick (refer to your original post - clearly you have one). For locks, you must use the Vera and the Vera Bridge plugin (which is the primary reason we supply the plugin).

You should use the Z-Stick on all Z-Wave devices except for the lock - the experience will be much better and faster. The Vera should only be used for the lock.

As you noted, I do have a z-stick at other house. Also have Inteon and Vera. I thought for the new house, it would be better to simplify and have just two home automation nets. You are also implying that the GE z-wave outlets would work with z-stick too? Bottom line, you are saying use Vera just for the locks. One other thing I will be adding to the new house is Somfy solar shades. They use the ZRTSI controller. I have that at summer house too, but don't remember whether I am doing it with z-stick or Vera. Will z-stick handle ZRTSI also?

Getting myself confused. Seems there are two plugins: Vera and Vera Bridge. What is the difference?

The Vera plugin is an old abandoned 3rd party plugin - it's original developer decided to drop it and it's no longer supported by anyone.

The Vera Bridge plugin was written by us expressly to support Locks (though it does support a few other device types as well - mainly to help people migrate from the Vera to Indigo).

I removed everything from the Vera, downgraded to I5, and installed the two Kwikset locks. The locks work, but the log shows errors having to do with battery levels.

Did you delete and recreate them in Indigo? What version of Indigo are you using?

Hi Jay. Yes, I deleted the locks and recreated them in Indigo via Vera Bridge plugin. I am using Indigo 6.0.18

Hmmm. Follow these steps:

1. Delete one of the lock devices in Indigo
2. In the Event Log window, click the Clear Window button
3. Select the Plugins->Vera Bridge->Toggle Debugging menu item (enable debug logging)
4. Switch back to the device list and add the lock back
5. Select the Plugins->Vera Bridge->Toggle Debugging menu item again (disable debug logging)
6. Copy/paste everything from the Event Log window into a reply message
