reflector connection test failed: unable to connect to serve

Hi, I've been seeing this error in the Event Log and finally got around to trying to fix it.

I followed https://wiki.indigodomo.com/doku.php?id ... activation and did a manual activation, but:

Re: reflector connection test failed: unable to connect to s

Your reflector is currently up and working here (I just tested it specifically). Is it working for you now? The errors you are seeing look like ISP or connectivity problems.

Note the ping test isn't that useful, as all it shows is our reflector server is up and running, not if your reflector is connected and working back to your Mac.

I edited out all the sensor log entries. I don't think I have a poor internet connection.

Are there diagnostics I can run?

Re: reflector connection test failed: unable to connect to s

Does it ever work for you? It worked a few days ago for me when I was replying to your message.

Can you access this URL from your Indigo Server Mac in Safari successfully?

Does that help diagnose the problem?

And, just like that, it's working again. Is the DNSServiceProcessResult err = -65563 significant?

Re: reflector connection test failed: unable to connect to s

The next time it fails, restart your Mac and all of your networking equipment (router, modem, switches, etc.). Those types of DNS errors mean either your Mac or network is in a bad state or is somehow marginal.

Re: reflector connection test failed: unable to connect to s

I'm having this same problem.

Here is in the log:

Jul 23, 2023 at 8:18:07 PM
Error reflector connection test failed: local server unreachable
Warning reflector reconnection scheduled in 5 seconds
Error failed to create reflector connection: local server unreachable
Error check your Firewall and Network configurations and try restarting the server
Warning reflector reconnection scheduled in 15 minutes

When I ping the URL from the Indigo Mac:

ping indigodomo.net
PING indigodomo.net (104.239.240.68): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 104.239.240.68: icmp_seq=0 ttl=45 time=58.738 ms
64 bytes from 104.239.240.68: icmp_seq=1 ttl=45 time=55.588 ms
64 bytes from 104.239.240.68: icmp_seq=2 ttl=45 time=55.353 ms

Looks fine. When I hit the link from the Server Start Page: (https://alex.indigodomo.net)

Reflector connection is currently down.

The iOS app says it's down. I've booted and such, no Joy.

I used to work...?

Re: reflector connection test failed: unable to connect to s

UPDATE: It works for about 10-15 seconds after restarting the server, then gives up and I lose the connection.

Weird.

Re: reflector connection test failed: unable to connect to s

Do you have any firewalls turned on? If so, temporarily disable them and see if that changes the behavior.

Nothing different than before when it worked. Do you mean external firewalls or MACOS Firewall on the Indigo Mac?

Re: reflector connection test failed: unable to connect to s

This error:

Code: Select all
Error failed to create reflector connection: local server unreachable

means Indigo isn't able to find its own internal Web server on your Mac. That is the first test Indigo does, before it does a "round trip" test off of our reflector server. It is possible that the server is actually up and the reflector is working though, which explains why it works for a while until Indigo attempts to do a check. The problem might be related to the hosts file on your Mac. See this thread for more troubleshooting steps.

Re: reflector connection test failed: unable to connect to s

I did the http://localhost:8176/prismstatus check.

It failed.

It also fails at 127.0.0.1.

I checked my host file and it's fine. And ping of localhost works as expected.

The netstat -an | grep 8176 shows there is nothing "listening" at 8176.

What does that mean?

Re: reflector connection test failed: unable to connect to s

That means the Indigo Web Server process is down. Restart the Indigo Server and open two browser windows to refresh every second or so both of those URLs (127.0.0.1 and localhost versions). See if either of them come up for a while (15 seconds as you reported earlier?). The point of this is to see if 127.0.0.1 works but localhost doesn't during that 15 second window.

After running the test for a couple of minutes (after Indigo Server restarts) report the results and copy/paste the contents of the entire Event Log window into a reply on the forum or email it to us.
