Maybe be I just got one with a bad battery but not going to do it again. I have a cheap no name open / close sensor on my hall door that is opened many times a week and it is going on three years with the same battery. I just took a look at my Aeotec - an it is at 5%. Over priced POS if you ask me.

No, I was not fibbing. There are 2 issues here: one is backup/restore and the other is firmware updates. For many years, Aeotec refused to share any information about either. I'm not sure what the current state of getting this information from them is.

We are quite hesitant to do anything that could brick someone else's hardware (if Aeotec's software does it you can always get a replacement from them, but if it was us that bricked it they may not be as willing to replace it). As some of you have seen from Aeotec's own software, bad firmware flashes are a definite possibility. We may revisit this in the future, particularly if their own software seems to get more reliable at doing it.

Do you know what HA platforms use it - maybe Jay is fibbing

Or my memory is getting worse :-)

With the Anotec z-stick gen 5? Which ones?

Yes, I updated something a while back - had to blow the dust off my old windows laptop, just not worth the time for something that might not matter anyway - I also wish it could be done via indigo. I sort of remember Jay saying that the process for doing that is a better kept secret than a winning BBQ sauce, so I doubt it will happen soon.

PS Plus I would hate to dork up my z-wave stick in the process.....

Thanks, but I can only imagine what a hassle that would be to implement - I'll just live with it or replace it with a Gen 5 open / close sensor....

I hope yours works better - maybe the newer firmware will make the battery last longer....

I really never open the window - beyond testing to make sure it worked - had to charge it 3 times since I put it in - maybe I got a bad one but never buying this style again - it was expensive. Lots better options that last way over a year on battery....

I have one of those and agree it work great - but the battery life stinks - I need to charge mine ~every 3 months or so and I have it on a window I never open.....
