Apple expected to unveil new smart home platform ... ????

Depending on how Apple handles this, I can see my Indigo set up integrating with something like this for even more power.

Interesting rumor - we'll see if anything comes of it.

I don't believe we will see Apple allowing us to do things like what INDIGO does and soon users will run into all kinds of limitations. The only good thing to come from this would be more widespread adoption of HA resulting in more users discovering INDIGO
Re: Apple expected to unveil new smart home platform ... ??
This is my fear as well. I love Apple and embrace (nearly) all its technology. But I'm with the Indigo folks when it comes to the philosophy of not relying on a web/cloud device/app to control my house. Still, I'm awaiting the announcement.mlooss wrote:I don't believe we will see Apple allowing us to do things like what INDIGO does and soon users will run into all kinds of limitations. Interesting article here:

Will Apple introduce their ‘own’ protocols for controlling devices and further segment things or buy into an existing standard? I have an HA set up with Z-Wave, Insteon, and X-10 devices (surprise, but their lightbulb socket units work fine for me) along with an RFXCOM plugin to support a RFXTRX transceiver. Indigo does a superb job of tying these devices together. I agree with other posters that Apple’s entry into this field could bring additional attention to Indigo.

HomeKit: Worked with leaders of home automation, Locks, lights, cameras, doors, etc., Even works with Siri, "Get ready for bed."
Re: Apple expected to unveil new smart home platform ... ??
Hope Indigo embraces Homekit wholeheartedly....
Re: Apple expected to unveil new smart home platform ... ??
Very cool. Hopefully everything will be able to work together.

"HomeKit introduces a new way for you to control supported devices in your home using Siri. That means you could use your voice to turn on lights or adjust the thermostat." https://www.apple.com/ios/ios8/developer/
Sounds more like a universal app for select devices.

LOL - you guys are so funny...
60 seconds of high-level presentation does not even come close to enough information to understand what HomeKit even is. About the only thing that you can realistically take away without more information:
However, embracing HomeKit may not be useful at all. For instance, if it requires communicating only with devices (and presumably hubs) that support their protocol, and the protocol itself isn't openly published (but is "hidden" behind APIs - think Siri and/or iTunes/Apple TV communication), then it wouldn't be very useful for Indigo Touch. I hope this isn't the case, but there's enough history to make us cautious.
So - once detailed information is available, we'll evaluate it against our product line and adopt what makes sense. But until then we don't really see any point in speculating...

- Given that it was introduced as an iOS API, it seems unlikely it's a full client app.
- It seems like the only possibility for integrating with Siri since there is still no Siri API - though how that will work is completely unknown.

Thanks -- I've read over the documentation and we are thinking about ways to integrate it with Indigo Touch. I cannot provide or discuss specifics because of Apple's dev NDA.Bollar wrote:The developer documentation is available: https://developer.apple.com/library/pre ... TP40014519

I'm encouraged by this. Understand the need to comply with the NDA and I'll try to be patient.matt (support) wrote:Thanks -- I've read over the documentation and we are thinking about ways to integrate it with Indigo Touch. Another vote for this - really does look as if it might be a way to get proper Siri control...
