Bluetooth/Indigo Touch/iPhone 4

More an FYI than a question. It still appears that bluetooth impacts connectivity. I have a new iPhone 4 and when Bluetooth is turned on when over wifi, connectivity to Indigo Touch is sluggish at best.

Yep. We've refiled our original bug with Apple.

I am a new user with an iPhone 4 and when I had bluetooth on the wifi connection would drop and I would have to enter my WiFi password again.

Yes, unfortunately, Apple has still not fixed the bug in the latest iOS update. We'll bug them (again) about it.

Re: Bluetooth/Indigo Touch/iPhone 4

I believe we finally have this one solved! Or more accurately, we now have worked around the iOS bug.

Turn Bluetooth back on, and then give Indigo Touch 1.7 a try to see if it works better.

Re: Bluetooth/Indigo Touch/iPhone 4

I am using Indigo Touch 1.7 on an iPhone 3GS with the latest iOS 4.2.1

I cannot connect to Indigo on my home network via WiFi/Bonjour. I get the "reflector connection down" message and no connection. Turning off Bluetooth doesn't help. I still get the error.

When I turn off wifi I connect fine over 3G. I'm not sure what the deal is.

Indigo is running on a Mac Mini (non-Intel) connected directly to an AirPort Extreme. Any suggestions on where to look would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Byron

Delete the entry for your database in the Touch settings dialog then close it and quit Touch. Relaunch it and see if it shows up again in the settings.

Did that tonight. It does show up in the settings, but when I go to select, it still gives the "Reflector Connection Down" error message.

I quit Touch and made sure I killed it from the multitasking bar. Bluetooth is off. I can connect over 3g without problem (did so immediately before the attempt.

My genealogy program (Reunion) uses Bonjour and connects fine, btw, so it doesn't appear to be a Bonjour problem.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks,
Byron

Re: Bluetooth/Indigo Touch/iPhone 4

I'm a bit confused by the Reflector is Down error message. It sounds like your reflector is working since it connects okay over 3G. You are using the same connection setting entry in Indigo Touch regardless of Wi-Fi or 3G? That is, you only have one entry in there and it is the one automatically added/found via Bonjour?

Try these steps:

1) Totally turn off your Mac's firewall.
2) Stop the Indigo Server (not just the client, so choose the Indigo 4->Stop Server menu item)
3) Launch Indigo Touch and delete the connection entry for your database. Quit Indigo Touch via the task bar as you did before.
4) Launch Indigo Server.
5) Wait 2 minutes.
6) Launch Indigo Touch.
7) Does the bonjour item for your database automatically show up? If so, click on it.
8) If it fails, then go back to Indigo and copy/paste the entire contents of the Event Log window into a reply post for me.

One last question: do you have more than one Mac besides the one running Indigo Server? If so, launch the Terminal app on them and enter:

ps -axww | grep Indigo

and copy/paste the results.

Re: Bluetooth/Indigo Touch/iPhone 4

Showed in Touch. Failed over WiFi with Reflector connection down error. Turned off WiFi and it attempts to connect but I just get the spinning spokes. No error at all I'm guessing the difference is that it had a connection to the previous entry and could re-establish over 3g, but with this new one failing in the first place, it can't recreate.
This is the log text. The KeypadLinc that failed is not plugged in so that's expected.

This is the result of the ps command on the server:

And this is the result of the ps command on the other computer that accesses Indigo as a client.

iMayes:~ bcmayes$ ps -axww | grep Indigo
369 ttys000 0:00.01 grep Indigo

Re: Bluetooth/Indigo Touch/iPhone 4

Did you follow all of the instructions above (in order):

The reason I ask is that you said it failed over WiFi with "Reflection connection down error", but if you deleted the connection entry for your database in Indigo Touch (step #3) and quit Indigo Touch (second part of step #3), then Indigo Touch won't know anything about the reflector until is successfully establishes a connection, which it doesn't appear to be doing. Therefore, I don't see how it would be possible to get that error. Can you redo the steps and make sure you really are seeing a Reflector connection error on step #7 (if it is a different error, I'd like the exact error text)? Also make sure the Firewall is turned totally off.

Lastly, on your Mac not running the Indigo Server:

1) Launch Safari
2) Choose Bookmarks->Show All Bookmarks menu item
3) Click on the Bonjour item/icon in the Collection list (upper-left area of the window)
4) Does it list your Indigo Database? If so, does it connect to it and work if you click on it?
