Presence detection 2.0

Post by siclark »

The Biggest iPhone News Is a Tiny New Chip Inside It https://www.wired.com/story/apple-u1-chip

This UWB sounds amazing for pibeacon Bluetooth tech replacement in the future, albeit costly. Location detection to 30cm. Easily passes through walls etc. Update every 100 ms. Doesn't impact on WiFi..

I wonder if it would be powerful enough that the indigo Mac server could see all devices in the house without a network of pi's that we have now.

It’s certainly an interesting prospect. I’d love to see these rumoured tags that use it for tracking.. especially if they’re waterproof/small enough to use on my cats!

Are your cats routinely wet?
I came here to drink milk and kick ass....and I've just finished my milk.

Oh I’m sure they’ll be expensive.. but if they actually work then it’d be worth it IMHO.

And no most of them don’t like the wet (as most cats).. but sushi really doesn’t seem to mind it at all.. she’ll quite happily go out when it’s pouring with rain then come in a while later and curl up on the bed while still soaking wet...

Hehe well they are odd creatures!

That said it’d also be nice for this u1 stuff to be usable for other things like keys and AirPods and even other things like finding your car in a car park or tagging a bike.
