Info on Ikea's new smart bulb offering

Forum rules

Questions about hardware that can be controlled by Indigo (but not through the interfaces and plugins listed). If Indigo doesn't support some bit of hardware you're interested in, and you don't find a 3rd Party Plugin for it, add it to this forum. Be sure to include links to as much information as you can find about it.

Note: adding it here does not mean we're going to add it - in fact it's possible one of our 3rd party developers may decide to write a plugin for it. We add hardware/features based on a lot of different factors beyond just having a request for it.

Info on Ikea's new smart bulb offering

More of a security evaluation than anything, but it gives more info than any other article I've seen.

It's Zigbee, by the way.

And someone is doing the heavy lifting of building a library to support it in a platform agnostic way:
https://www.reddit.com/r/homeautomation ... we/ikea_trådfri_lights_just_zigbee_and_usable_on/dg2cfbo/

Looks like that unicode character breaks the URL, so you'll have to copy & paste.

Just thought I'd clarify that while I'm interested in seeing this integrated and found the resources above that I think might help someone do it, I'm in no way qualified to attempt it.

Re: Info on Ikea's new smart bulb offering

Well, I would be able to play somehow, but I need the equipment :D
Maybe I am going to to IKEA next week and I will be a couple of bulbs + the gateway (which is needed to control bulbs).

The latest version of Home-Assistant apparently now supports these lights:

The gateway can control lights connected to it and Home Assistant will automatically discover its presence on your network.

Perhaps someone can adapt their code to Indigo?

Re: Info on Ikea's new smart bulb offering

Any movement on a Plugin for this?

They are a lot cheaper than the equivalent Hue lights.

Openhab2 also seems to support this, and I have tested it. I would really want to see this supported in Indigo. Bulbs are cheap and work really well.

They are now by the Hue Plug-in :-)

I know you could pair them with HUE, but that makes the IKEA remotes, dimmers, and motion sensor not able to talk to the bulbs anymore (correct me if I'm wrong?).

I don’t know, I don’t have any Trädfri stuff but this looks like it may help ... https://youtu.be/HFq3xi2fmYY

Hmm, I could try that, but then I need to get all my IKEA light in short distance to HUE controller and there is now 16 ++ bulbs in various sockets around the house. If the remote controls could act as "hub" to include all connected bulbs it would be a nicer solution, but I cannot make it pair that way with HUE hub.

Re: Info on Ikea's new smart bulb offering

A quick look at the above linked library shows that it requires Python 3. Indigo uses Python 2 so it's likely to be non-trivial to use that library.
