EcoBee Smart SI vs. Honeywell Wifi 9000

Forum rules

Questions about hardware that can be controlled by Indigo (but not through the interfaces and plugins listed). If Indigo doesn't support some bit of hardware you're interested in, and you don't find a 3rd Party Plugin for it, add it to this forum. Be sure to include links to as much information as you can find about it.

Note: adding it here does not mean we're going to add it - in fact it's possible one of our 3rd party developers may decide to write a plugin for it. We add hardware/features based on a lot of different factors beyond just having a request for it.

EcoBee Smart SI vs. Honeywell Wifi 9000

Local utility offering a nice rebate plan on both of these (also Building 36 but coming up blank there). Both seem to have some sort of API/developer momentum building but which is more likely to have robust support from the Indigo world? Appreciate all data anyone may have stumbled across...

Re: EcoBee Smart SI vs. Honeywell Wifi 9000

Ecobee discontinued the Smart Si 1.5 years ago. Their current thermostat is the Ecobee 3 with Homekit support.

I have a Smart Si and I'm generally very pleased with it. I can control it from anywhere via the smart phone app. A big point with Ecobee tstats is the information on your system's performance is collected on their web site and they provide a number of reports. (You can also download the raw data.) From a month by month summary, you can drill down to an hourly run-time analysis. Being able to review exactly what was going on with your system versus your settings and the weather gives you a deep understanding of what drives a major household expense.

OTOH, Ecobee had repeated problems with their data collection system over last summer. Some user data was lost. They _say_ they've fixed the problems that led to the data loss and that it won't happen again but who knows for sure.
