Re: Phantom Devises

We've seen that happen several times in the past (including twice for me) with failing devices. Usually they are X10 or INSTEON devices, but it can also be just something (like a power strip) that's failing and it's spewing garbage on the power line that occasionally looks like valid X10 traffic.

Re: Phantom Devises

As a follow on when I tryto execute an x10 command i am now getting

Error resending previous command (busy or unexpected command)
Error resending previous command (busy or unexpected command)
Error resending previous command (busy or unexpected command)
Sent X10 "Florida Room" off

This happens on all x10 so it would seem like my faithful x10 controller is the item dying?

Re: Phantom Devises

It is either power line noise, some module malfunctioning and causing power line issues, or the interface is dying. Impossible to tell which one without troubleshooting such as plugging the interface into different outlets using an extension cord, but my money would be on the interface malfunctioning if sending all X10 commands are having errors. Definitely rule out interference first though before replacing it.

Re: Phantom Devises

OK I removed the Wrf232 disabled the interface and I am still getting phantom messages like

Received x10 L2 extended data of 0 command of 0

How? The interface is disabled in indigo and is unplugged to boot

Re: Phantom Devises

As I noted above, devices that are failing can cause what appears to be X10 traffic. Other noise makers can too though that happens less often.

Re: Phantom Devises

You have to just start eliminating possibilities by unplugging devices (plugin modules), air-gapping off switches, or even turning off entire circuit breakers. There is really no way to know from what circuit something is coming, unless you turn off that circuit and the problem stops.
