HomeKit Update

It looks like with iOS 11.3 Apple will finally allow software authentication and will not require an MFi chip. Will this allow Indigo to finally act as a HomeKit bridge?

Re: HomeKit Update

That is good news. It remains to be seen if Apple will allow it for pure software apps like Indigo (versus standalone hardware accessories that don't have an MFi chip), but at least it is a step in the right direction. We'll investigate it further.

Re: HomeKit Update

What we heard from Apple at WWDC last year was that this move was specifically aimed at reducing hardware requirements for devices (no hardware security enclave) and would not change their licensing strategy towards bridges. We will, of course, continue to watch what Apple has to say, but I don't believe this changes anything.

Re: HomeKit Update

In the meantime I'm cooking up a ground-up rewrite of the HomeKit bridge, currently in Alpha now I hope to release it for testing soon. It's already miles beyond what HBB was able to get done.

My Modest Contributions to Indigo:

HomeKit Bridge | Device Extensions | Security Manager | LCD Creator | Room-O-Matic | Smart Dimmer | Scene Toggle | Powermiser | Homebridge Buddy

Very exciting! For it to be that much better than what it is now, I expect you'll be forking the Homebridge-Watson project!
