That's the way the rule editor Cocoa widget works, so blame Apple... ;)

Can you add text labelling to that UI to direct people to it? It's apparent from above threads that regular advanced users don't know about it.

Will be in the next build. Mail's rule editor used to use that control (though it no longer offers complex rules) as did some other app that now escapes me. I guess it's operation is not as broadly known as it used to be.

Apple failed badly with that control IMO - it's very complex to use and their examples are few, incomplete, and poorly documented. I guess that's why it's so rarely used. Too bad - it's a very useful control for creating just these types of arbitrarily complex rules.

Sorry for being late to the party, my job can take me way from home for months at a time. johnpolasek your example is exactly what I was talking about. In the end i was just trying to make things a little cleaner. It seems like these other suggestions may just do what I need. A special thanks howardtp, and to everyone else for their suggestions.
