Screen active on proximity

Hi

I'm new to indigo so forgive if thus feature exists - couldn't see it :-)
I intend to use a wall mounted iPad as a control device which is permanently on
It would be great that using the front camera detects motion and brings the screen on then of course screen off when no motion detected .
I guess it might be possible to do something using a motion sensor and some way of triggering a screen wake up somehow ......
Just a thought :-)

Cheers

Re: Screen active on proximity

It might be possible with Jailbreak--probably *is* possible--but I don't think it would be possible without. Once the iPad has gone to sleep, I think iOS requires a button press (power or home) and a swipe of the lock screen to wake it up.

But you could have an all black control page that, when tapped, would bring up another page. Then you could have controls on other pages called "sleep" or something, which would link back to the all black page. Set the iPad to never go to sleep.

Hi

Thanks for the input
I was really thinking about power consumption on an Eco friendly house. So a screen off when not in use seemed a good idea. Is this easier to achieve perhaps on an android tablet ??

Cheers

Actually, it looks like it might be possible after all.

I think iPad has one too. Don't know how close you need to be to trigger it, though.

Re: Screen active on proximity

That would be pretty awesome if it does do it on the iPad... Matt and jay, something to add to your ever increasing wish list..

Re: Screen active on proximity

Added to our Indigo Touch feature request list. Will definitely require some more research to see what is possible, but it is a great idea for in-wall iPads.

Geeeee !

You guys are good !
Not even got my Mac mini as a dedicated indigo server or downloaded the 30 day trial yet !!
Coming from verde ; which works but is clunky and slow . A week stop at I aro hc 2 which bluntly looks great but is so bugged it's unusable ! . So decided to try indigo because you are interested in selling the softwAre not the hardware! ( a Mac OS is about a million times more stable than any windows alternative ) . So before I even start fiddling you are on the case! . Your forums read of happy content users not fed up pee'd off people ! . Great product( or at least it sounds like ) with top customer support. ! . Guess I had to go through the pain for the gain !! :-)

I've been using indigo now for over two years and it really hasn't set a foot wrong.. Sure I've had plenty of issues along the way but it's all been down to me not setting something up right! Where I work the slogan is "extraordinary customer experience" and I can guarantee these guys give that 100% of the time

Re: Screen active on proximity

I have made the same jurney except for the HC 2, I read the forums and decided to go straight for Indigo. One month ago I bought my Mac mini, USB stick and Pro license. What I have made in one month including learning the software is 3-4 times more then I did in one year with Vera. I just love this product, best of all is the Control Panels, they looks so professional that all friends think "that must cost a fortune or taken for ever to build" no just a couple of hours.

The iPad SmartCovers contain a magnet that 'wakes' the iPad up when opened
Using a simple circuit consisting of a small PIR / IR proximity sensor and a small electromagnet,
you could trick the iPad into waking up when it detects localised motions

That's a really clever idea.. or i suppose if you felt really adventurous you could crack open the iPad with a hot air gun and directly connect it to the reed switch inside the iPad (i assume it uses a reed switch of some sort?)... oooh now i'm getting ideas about using the PIR on my alarm to connect directly to an iPad 2 to make it wake whenever anyone is walking through the hall. Damnit, i'm supposed to be cutting back on spending, got an expensive honeymoon coming up!!
