Oh, sorry, I didn't see the rest of the thread. It's not likely to be in the next Indigo Touch release (whenever that might be) given the quantity of higher priorities.
I'm not sure how practical it would be to use the proximity sensor anyway -- the read is a very short distance on nearly all devices. There are a couple of apps that allow you to use the proximity sensor to trigger a voice action (for use in the car, for instance), but you have to wave your hand very close. From my experiments, at least, I think any proximity detection would be too late for you approaching the iPad.
In DomoPad I have implemented facial detection which wakes the device when you look straight at it which could be a similar option. Only issue is sometimes it wakes up when you look at it from further away (don't have to be right up close, depending on the device).
I don't have an iPad to test. But on my iPhone when main power is connected the screen comes on. Therefore perhaps a movement sensor linked to an in wall iPad power supply on proximity would activate it?
Yeah that’s how I have the two mounted iPads I have in my house. When motion is detected it toggles the power off and on and turns on the iPad.. and because it’s in single app mode it just appears with the control pages automatically.
