[ANSWERED]drawing app for backgrounds?

I just found that 'control pages' has its own forum.

Anyway, what do most people use for background and other graphic design? I don't want to buy an expensive app. are there any inexpensive or free ones that you use (mac)?

Graphic Converter is inexpensive (well, it used to be) but is rudimentary in many respects. Acorn is what I'm using now and it's great.

Google? :|

The most powerful free program is probably GIMP -- it is on par with Adobe's Photoshop in terms of power. Unfortunately, at least last I used it, it wasn't the most user-friendly program in the world. I somehow convinced work that a programmer needed Photoshop (which I use mostly for Indigo control pages, but I digress...), but if I did not have access to that I would go back to GIMP I believe.

Thanks for the suggestions. I just bought Acorn 4 for $29 on the app store. It looks great and simple. Plenty of uses.
