[ANSWERED]House Shutdown Button

Hi,

This is probably a common sort of use case.

I want to make a button on my remote that does a set of things:

1. Speak something through the Mac's speaker.
2. Turn on a device .
3.. After 10 minutes, shut off another device.

I can trigger can arbitrary python script on the Mac from a remote button easily. Is python the best way to do this?

Re: House Shutdown Button

You could if you wanted to - but you can definitely do it without scripting. Create the trigger and add an action that would turn on the device with an auto-off of 10 minutes. Then in the Speak text field at the bottom of the Action tab enter the text you want spoken. All done through the UI, no scripting required.

Ah, great. What's the best way to trigger a trigger from a command line?

Nevermind. I ended up just using a python script. Couldn't wrap my head around the other way.
