Heater fan with indigo control

Hi all,
Preparing for autumn and winter in my home office and looking for a fan for both heating and cooling.

Naturally I'd prefer to be able to have some control through indigo so wondered if anyone has any recommendations on a fan/heater to buy and how to control.

I like the look of the Dyson's but they're quite pricey and not sure if they'd be controllable.

Cheers
Noel

Not sure if this is quite in the right place so apologies if not

Re: Heater fan with indigo control

Not directly Indigo but if you're using homebridge someone wrote a plugin for the dysons:

https://www.npmjs.com/package/homebridge-dyson-link

the fact it exists and appears to work suggests some smart sod would be able to reverse engineer its code and build a plugin for indigo.

Alternatively the simple solution would be just standard plugin fans with a z-wave or whatever on/off switch suitable for the wattage load. Of course that offers no additional controls beyond on off. I suppose you could install a dual-relay module if the fan's wiring would allow it to turn on two stages.. perhaps one for on/off and one for heat/no heat.. but be careful of load!

Computer says no.

Some of the dysons are IR controllable I believe. The nice upright fan comes with a little IR remote.

It’s a shame the Dyson’s have safety built-in; they default to off so you can’t use a third-party plug timer or HA module to turn it on/off - it always powers on to Off state.

Mum got two or three around but I can’t automate them.

Re: Heater fan with indigo control

I’ve pushed the button on a ‘normal’ £60 fan heater from Amazon, has a remote control but I’m hoping when power is restored it comes on to previous setting. That way I’ll just use a TKB remote socket that’s tied into indigo and Amazon’s echos which will hit the spot. If it doesn’t turn on with power then I’ll possibly go uber cheap and basic to get one that does! Thanks all

@howartp ouch. I assume they’re the non app connected models?

Correct.

AM05 and AM09 I think.

Can’t see the other one so it might not be Dyson.

Re: Heater fan with indigo control

Yep, the fan defaults to off and I couldn't justify an ir module just for the fan!

Re: Heater fan with indigo control

There is a plugin for Homebridge. So it could be possible to integrate this in Indigo. At least for the ones connected to an app.

https://github.com/joe-ng/homebridge-dyson-link

Anyone willing to write a plugin? :)
