Indigo 7 Installer Failed

Well I tried again to install Indigo 7 and again had a disastrous result. I also did a complete backup before the installation.

First off I ran the installation package. Even though it created the Indigo 7 App in the Applications folder, the installation failed with the following error...

The Installation failed.

The installation encountered an error that
caused the installation to fail. Contact the
Software Manufacturer for assistance.

When I ran Indigo 7 for the first time, it asked me to setup the Z-Stick, and to supply the IP address for the Vera Bridge Plugin, which I did. Then when it started, all of the Z-wave devices did not show up on the Device List, None of the Vera Devices showed up, the CM15A X10 USB interface was not found (but it did try to substitute a CM11 Serial X10 Device which did not work), and none of the Triggers, Schedules, or Control Pages were copied through! This is exactly what happened before, but I did not remember the first problem with installation (nor do I know why installation failed!).

The Event Log at startup of Indigo 7 was as follows...

So this time I stopped the Indigo 7 Server (as instructed), ran Indigo 6, and all of the devices and schedules were found and reattached... basically it is working like it is supposed to do without any changes to the connected devices.

What did I do wrong? Why did the installation fail again? None of the other Indigo Upgrades had this problem.

Re: Indigo 7

If the installer says the installation failed then I wouldn't recommend trying to run it. Don't try to fly a plane with a missing wing. :| Instead from the Installer choose the Window->Installer Log menu item and see specifically why it is saying the installation failed. Let's get it installed without an error first, then worry about problems that you might (or might not) see when launching it.

Re: Indigo 7 Installer Failed

[MODERATOR NOTE] split this off into a separate topic since clearly your Mac has some issues running the Installer which is independent of Indigo 7 itself.

After I found where you moved my last post, I have rerun the Indigo 7 Installer and below is the Installer Log. I have selected the Show All Logs option (not just the Errors Only or Error and Progress)

Re: Indigo 7 Installer Failed

Try the following steps:

1) From Indigo 6, hold down the COMMAND key and click on the Main Window title (your database name), and write down (or screen shot) both the name and the folder path for where the file resides.

2) Stop the Indigo Server via the Indigo 6->Stop Server menu item.

3) So we can do a clean install delete the following folder:

/Library/Application Support/Perceptive Automation/Indigo 7/

If you have any custom files or plugins that only reside in that folder, then instead of deleting it move it to your desktop (so Indigo cannot find it). Also do not delete it if the folder path from step #1 shows that the database was in your Indigo 7 folder (we don't want to delete the good copy of your database by accident).

4) Run the installer. On the installer screen where you press the Install button, first (before pressing it) press the Customize button. From the table that opens deselect Indigo Drivers (leave everything else selected). Proceed with the install.

5) Presuming there were no installer errors, try launching Indigo 7. If your database looks incomplete then that is because for some reason Indigo 7 is using an older version of your database file. In that case find the database file based on your notes/screenshot from step #1, and double-click on the file. If that fails to work correctly, then open the Event Log window and copy/paste its contents into a reply.

Re: Indigo 7 Installer Failed

Amazing - after I deselected the Indigo Drivers and ran the installer Indigo 7 installed without any errors. Then when I ran Indigo 7 for the first time, after putting in the registration number, it started up without having me reset anything, and all the Devices, Triggers, Schedules, and Control Pages imported without a problem. Now this is how I remember the other upgrades proceeding without any problems - Thank you...

But out of curiosity, why did the install error occur? And what do I loose by not installing the Indigo Drivers?

Re: Indigo 7 Installer Failed

I don't know what went wrong. The error in the installer pointed at the fact that the driver install was causing the failure because of a permissions problem. I don't know why exactly that was happening, but the driver is only needed if you have the PowerLinc 2414U or CM15, so you can skip that (and you probably already have it installed from a previous version – it hasn't changed).

That got the installer to finish without an error, but that doesn't explain what was causing all the other problems you were seeing. So for now it is a mystery...

Re: Indigo 7 Installer Failed

Actually I have both a PowerLinc 2414U and a CM15, but those drivers have been installed with the previous versions of Indigo. And if they have not changed, then that is why everything is working fine now. I switched from using the Powerlinc 2414U to the CM15 since the CM15 informs Indigo of any X10 commands on the power line network that did not originate from Indigo itself, so Indigo can act on some of those commands. I loose the Powerlinc Modem working independent of the MacPro but gain additional control for Triggers to work.

Thanks again for your help.

Re: Indigo 7 Installer Failed

Is this the same as mine?

I also have an indigo 7 app installed. I think I will try the same.

Re: Indigo 7 Installer Failed

Yes, I think you are experiencing the same problem. I just posted a follow-up on the other forum thread as well. I going to duplicate that post here as users searching the forum are likely to end up on this thread:

There is something that on more recent macOS versions can cause the installer to fail when it is writing out the driver file that is used by the CM15 and old (discontinued) PowerLinc 2414U.

You can get around this problem by pressing the Customize button in the installer window and unselecting the Indigo Drivers checkbox. Note if you use the CM15 or 2414U and are upgrading then skipping the drivers is okay because you already have the driver installed from the previous version.
