Re: [ANSWERED]Transfer Indigo Software to a new computer

Our newish 2014 (but latest model) Mac Mini arrived today.... picked up the mid-range Mac Mini (2.8GHz, 8GB, 1TB) for $599 at B&H Photo black Friday.

Our old mac mini 2006 was not supported by Indigo 7... okay with me.

So for our installation, we need to 1) transfer indigo to the new mac as you recommend in your link, and 2) install indigo 7 over Indigo 6..... in that order.... we think.

Will this approach work? Or do you recommend a different approach?

I'll do it tomorrow night... tonight I'm backing up the old mac mini to be safe.

I think that sounds like a good approach. The thing that often breaks when copying data over is the file/folder permissions or owners. You need to make sure that the data that is copied over has the new Mac's user as the owner.

Matt, I'm also in process to move my Indigo to a MacMini 2009 with ElCapitan (talked about it in another thread).

You're saying here,we should follow the instructions in the "how-to" and copy from the Library folder the stuff over.
But we also need to copy the database which is located under the user documents folder.
Am I right?

Actually, the Databases folder is in the root (not user) Library folder at the path:

/Library/Application Support/PerceptiveAutomation/Indigo 6/Databases/

A very long time ago (Indigo 1.x) the databases were stored at the user level.

Point being, you don't need to do anything special for the Databases folder if you copy over the entire Indigo 6 folder since it will be included.

Matt, thx!

Ok, I know, but I wonder what the file in the documents folder is. for.
Never had Indigo before version 6, so it could not be from a earlier installation.
It also has the name of my house.

I will copy it over to the same folder, to be sure.

When you initially create an Indigo Database, you're prompted to save it. The save dialog defaults to the Databases folder but you can make it wherever you want. Perhaps you did that.

Jay, that's it! Thx!

Indeed, in the root Library folder is only the "sample house" database file and mine is in indigos's account documents folder.
When I move my installation to the newer MacMini I will copy back my house to the root Library database folder.

Re: [ANSWERED]Transfer Indigo Software to a new computer

Just ordered a new Mac mini to use as a standalone for my Indigo 7 and SecuritySpy software. Based on this thread, I should:

1. Copy over the /Library/Application Support/Perceptive Automation/Indigo 7/ folder to my new Mac mini
2. Install the Indigo 7 server
3. Move my Aeotec Z-Stick Gen5 from the old mini to the new mini
4. Start the Indigo server

Is that about right or is there something new with the Indigo 7 install?

Re: [ANSWERED]Transfer Indigo Software to a new computer

I'm in the process of setting up a dedicated Mac Mini. Late 2012, i7 quad core, 16GB Ram, 256GB SSD. I had previously run Indigo on a shared iMac that had multiple accounts on it. On the old instillation I used my AppleID for the account that was used to run Indigo on. I was thinking about the future and if I ever sold this house I would probably leave the system in tact. That got me thinking that I probably should create a new AppleID for this machine so that it wouldn't need to be erased and setup for the new owner. I would add the new account to Family Sharing so that I wouldn't have to repurchase some of the additional support software.

Can anyone see a problem with this approach? I'm curious about if there are any plugins that would have a problem?
