Standalone capabilities

Thanks for the list of standalone capabilities for the 2414 and Indigo 3. Do you have a capability list for the 2414 and Indigo 1.8? I tried the demo version of 1.8 (w/o hardware) and was unsure exactly what was supported or not in upload mode.

My primary interest is to run the 2414 standalone, and Indigo 3 is a bit too pricey for doing some simple programs and an upload.

I want to control a pair of Insteon dimmer switches, on a time schedule. I may add something like return to half bright after 30 minutes if the switches are manually brought to full bright. If this experiment with Insteon turns out well, then I may add some other switches in the future. But I don't plan on running Indigo very often, so I need the 2414 to run the show on it's own.

Thanks.

Only Indigo 2.0 and 3.0 (3.0 is a free upgrade for 2.0 customers) supports uploading to the PowerLinc 2414U. Adding upload support to the PowerLinc 2414U was one of the big features in 2.0, and thus one of the reasons for the price increase. :-)

Unfortunately, this type of logic cannot be uploaded to the PowerLinc 2414U. The PowerLinc 2414U only supports very basic Time/Date Actions and Trigger Actions. Delayed actions (like return to 50% brightness after 30 minues) cannot be run by the PowerLinc in standalone mode. You'll have to leave Indigo running for that type of automation logic.

Regards,
Matt

Indigo only requires firmware version 8.5 or higher for the PowerLinc 2412, not the 2414. Which version do you have?

And is your other forum thread post you said 2414U. Did you mean 2412U in that post as well? Indigo 2.0 doesn't support the 2412U, so it must be a 2414U, right? Do you have both PowerLinc models?

Hi, I am running Indigo 4.1 with a 2412U - that's bad? It is the only modem I own.

In your other forum thread post you said:
I used to use Indigo 2 on my power Mac G4, mirror door. No problems

Which PowerLinc were you using back with Indigo 2?

Indigo requires firmware version 8.5 or higher when using the PowerLinc 2412U (but not the 2414U). You have to get a replacement PowerLinc with a newer firmware version. Unfortunately, the firmware is not user upgradable.

The 2412 is the only unit I've used and it worked with vs2..
So is the wisest move for me now to get a new 2414U or to upgrade the 2412?

You should get your 2412U replaced with a newer version.

it is impossible that you successfully used the 2412U with Indigo 2.0. Support for it wasn't added until Indigo 4.0. The 2412U didn't even exist when Indigo 2.0 was released.

May 27, 06 I purchased the 2414. Sometime later, they had a software plus device offer when HouseLinc 2 was released. I think it was a swap out at that time. So you are right (which you already knew :) ) My memory was dazed on that one....
I will get the updated 2412 and hopefully fix all my problems. Thank's for hanging in w/me.

Gotcha, that would explain things. Get a new 2412U and you should be set with Indigo 4.0.

Re: PowerLinc V2 (2414U) Upload Support

Installed the 6.0.10 (from 6.0.9) update two days ago. My X-10 module lights no longer go on (or off) at the prescribed times. I have an iMac with OS 10.8.5 and Power Linc 2414U. Any suggestions? If Update 6.0.10 doesn't work with my system, how do I get back to 6.0.9? Thanks.

Re: PowerLinc V2 (2414U) Upload Support

Make sure you've uploaded your latest changes, then select Interfaces->INSTEON/X10 Power Line->Disable. That will put the 2414U into standalone mode.

Re: PowerLinc V2 (2414U) Upload Support

Jay,

I tried your suggestion twice. Each time the lights would go on and off for only one cycle (on then off). After one cycle the triggers would no longer work. I should point out that I have never had to manually disable the 2414U before. With previous versions of Indigo, the 2414U would automatically disable when I opened the Indigo program and automatically upload to the 2414U when I closed the Indigo program. After all, the purpose of the 2414U is to function as a standalone interface. Is there something about the 6.0.10 update that is not compatible with the 2414U? Any other suggestions? Thanks. GNG

Re: PowerLinc V2 (2414U) Upload Support

Unfortunately, it sounds like your 2414U is failing. If you want to try and go back to 6.0.9, you can download it here, but I'm pretty positive that's not going to help (we haven't touched the code that uploads to the 2414U in years).
