Motion Sensor - Low Battery alert/check

For the Indigo device details of the Insteon Motion Sensor, I see there is a 'batteryLevel' attribute.. All of my motion sensors show 'None' for this attribute.. Is this attribute only set for the newer model of the Insteon Motion Sensor.. BTW I have the older model '2842-222'

thanks in advance

Insteon sensors don't report actually battery levels so they will all show None. Just about ever other battery powered sensor does so that's why the property is there.

I just set up some triggers to look for the low battery message from my Insteon Motion Sensors - are you saying that will not work :?:

No that should work, but it is just a "battery is low" message that the module sends out. There is no battery level (percentage) sent, so Indigo doesn't update its batteryLevel UI.

So I also had mis-interpreted the 'batteryLevel' vs 'low battery alert' discussion.. Thought that I wouldn't be able to detect a low battery for Insteon Motion sensors. However, one of the triggers I had setup a while back finally triggered.. Very cool.

My follow-on question.. So far this 'low battery' trigger fired just once since yesterday.. How often would you expect this alert to fire if I haven't changed the battery?

If I recall correctly, it might be sent once every 24 hours or so. I think there have been problems with it not being sent multiple times though. In general the battery level reporting on Z-Wave modules and low-level messages on INSTEON haven't been as reliable as I would like.
