Insteon linking mode programmatically?

Is it possible to put an insteon device in linking mode programmatically using Indigo/scripts, etc? The devices are unreachable and I have the need to do manual linking. They are wired devices (fanlincs). Thanks in advance.

You don't need to put them in linking mode - just edit the links in Indigo and it'll do what's necessary.

Re: Insteon linking mode programmatically?

Thanks, Jay. The device is already linked with indigo. The reason I want to put it in linking mode is to link with a different hub and I was wondering if there is something I can do programmatically through indigo/scripts to put it in linking mode.

Not that I know of. Note - linking to an Insteon hub or a different PowerLinc may impair status reporting and other functions in Indigo.

Yes, I know about the status not being perfect when using an Insteon Hub. But I have been using them in parallel over a year with very little issues.

I found a way to do what I wanted through Indigo. I used the "execute RAW Insteon Command" under the Interfaces menu and was able to put the fanlincs in linking mode. It saved me from having to bring down a few fans to be able to link them. Very happy camper :D

What does the Hub do for you that Indigo doesn't? Just curious.

Integration with Apple HomeKit. Not only Siri, but also the iOS Home App that in my opinion has a great interface. It is not perfect though, it still has many problems but that is why I am running 2 or sometimes 3 hubs at a time.

Have you tried Homebridge?

I haven't. I had just discovered it and I was planning to try it but then I saw that the plugin was pulled because of some problems. I will be very willing to try it once they resolve the issues.

Re: Insteon linking mode programmatically?

Ok, thanks so much for the advice about HomeBridge! I spent a few hours yesterday setting it up (without HBB because of the concerns) and I can't be happier! It was relatively easy to set up, the statuses work well, it has more functionality (locks, thermostats, garage door, etc).

I do have one more question. I have an Insteon Hub (not Homelink) that I have been using to be able to control the system with Alexa by voice (for kids and people in the house that do not have an iOS device). Is the only way to get rid of that other hub and maintain voice control via Alexa to get a Philips Hue for integration with Indigo?

Thanks!

viewforum.php?f=208

Doesn't require a Hue Hub, it just pretends to be a Hue Hub so Alexa can control Indigo devices.

Great, thanks for the quick response. Now I that I am finished with homebridge, that is the next step. :)
