Customize Device for Unsupported Wired Fan Controller?

I recently installed a wired Z-Wave 3-speed fan controller made by GE.

Indigo sees it as unsupported, but still lists it as a dimmer, and the dimming in Indigo sort of works for setting the different speeds.

I submitted a request for support in a future version of Indigo, but have no idea what the priority would be to have it included in future versions.

I wondered the best way to edit the device and maybe raw commands to get a customized device that can support Lo-Med-Hi-Off? And maybe show up as a Fan in the UI?

I am just not sure how to read or write those commands correctly, or if it's even possible.

Also, it seems as though there is an old version (12730) and a newer version (14287), though I suspect if one is supported, the other could be very easily.

Use my Masquerade plugin: viewtopic.php?f=216&t=17402

It's a long thread, but somewhere in there is a discussion (and subsequent code changes) to do what you want. You want to create a Masquerade "Speed Control" device, and point it to the Z-wave "dimmer".

Re: Customize Device for Unsupported Wired Fan Controller?

Is there a way to control both the light and fan independently with this device? For example, I have them working now (recognized as dimmers), but really can only use it to turn the fan on and off based on its last setting.

What I would really like to do is turn the light on at times (without the fan), and then turn the fan on later, etc.

The product description (on Amazon) says:

This smart fan control replaces a switch that only controls fans - lights must be on a separate switch.
